My 67 GT-500 has an SPEC cast into the rear differential carrier. A friend of mine has the same car but the rearend has no SPEC, but has a correct date code and looks original to the car.

Does anyone know whether the SPEC is supposed to be on all GT-500's or ??

    Thanks, Dave

As I understand it Shelby was the first to put a nodular rear end center section in.
Before the N was cast into the carrier, a SPEC was cast in place of the date code.
Use the link below, click on rear ends in the left column.

Were cars ever shipped without the "N" cast into the car? Mine doesn't have the "N".

The embossed "N" case's were to start appearing on the 681/2 KR's and other Cobra Jet's but some foundry issue's delayed the "N" casting's being cast until the 69 model year. HTH. Frank
