I was there and got my car on the track for the open track sessions--it was awesome---and to see all of those race cars running wide open and all out was the best---great show--how about some feedback or photos --of course I forgot my camera----

Without a doubt, one of the most amazing automotive events I have ever attended. Thanks so much to everyone for making the Cougar XR7-G guys feel so welcome!

Here is a picture of the back downhill course. Sorry about the long distance shot, but it is not easy trying to stop you with the camera going 100mph :D .
Did you have a number on the side of your car?

I was looking for a 76 originally and didn't have any luck. This was the only possibility.

I was there. I was instructing in the Driver's school on Friday, and ran one session of open track on each Saturday and Sunday AM. My 67 year old Mother ran the other open track sessions the rest of the day. It was a great event. I met a couple of people here and a several off the shelby email list.

Other than the fact that it was hot!!!!! it was a great event. We had lots of good friends there both from our local club and ones we see occasionally at the national convention. Hope it comes back to VIR again sometime in the future.

Oh and watch my blog for a couple of stories about the event:

Right now my July 5th post has a link to my photo gallery from the event. My photos were not that good, but you might get a feel for the event at least.

SAAC-31 turned out to be a quite different event than what usually occurs.
We had LOTS of Shelbys and a fair number of real Cobras this time. Quite
refreshing! The cars were in view the whole time. Not hidden away in
trailers and haulers. It was great to walk around in the paddock and up on
the hill to see the cars on display or walk thru the concourse area. Great
stuff! And VIR is a great setting. Very well maintained facility with lots of
shade, thankfully, as it was a trifle warm. All in all, it was a real nice event.

It was great meeting you. I had been to your '68 Shelby site often over the past couple of years. Stephen Becker initially pointed me to it a couple of years ago. I loved seeing the pictures from inside A.O. Smith. It is a wealth of information.

Mom enjoyed talking to you as well. I think she was more convinced at the convention that our car was not for sale. She had been sort of on the fence about maybe selling it sometime, but she is now set that it is just flatly not for sale to anyone that asks. That just avoids hassles.

Coral snake’s site is awesome - Who knew how many "oddities" they built in the 1968 Shelby Mustang line. Talk about unique color palates!!!

The maroon CV was a new one to me!!

I have a fold out article with 6 or 7 pictures, that nicely detail the XR7-G conversion and show XR7-Gs and GT-350s parked next together at A.O. Smith. I'll try to remember to bring it out to the next Open Track day, Calvin.

Well, if you get to any of our events in the Norfolk/VA Beach, VA area bring them along. I am usually at the Mustang/Shelby events here anyway.

After watching the sorry CBS tape delayed ALMS coverage at Miller, nice track, but the air temp was 105 at sunset. Who'd want to stand in 105+ heat for 3 days? I know it's a "dry heat", but no thanks, should SAAC 32 be held there. As for the ALMS race, nice job to IMSA for loading up the Vettes with extra weight, and then reducing the air intake size. They accomplished what they wanted, two 7 litre engines gasping for air at that extreme altitude. The Vette guys suggested to make achieve even more parity for the Aston's, to just pull the engines out and have the driver's push the cars around the track. I hate when politics dictates, as like with F-1. :grrr:

For some reason, I find F1 politics to be REALLY entertaining! They are so famous for bringing in ideas out of left field, that it makes for interesting conversation between and during races.
