Doing a rotisserie restoration of a 1969 GT500. Am looking for a complete air cleaner setup and a cast iron transmission tailshaft. I have the original cast iron intake, but would like to get an aluminum one (original Police Intercepter) as well just for swapping some weight out. Does anyone have any of these or know where I can find them? Thanks

The cast iron CJ intake actually makes more HP on the dyno then the PI intake. The weight savings probably will not make up for the lost HP. If you are concerned about weight savings I wouldn't worry about the cast iron transmission tail shaft ether. It is unlikely you will break a aluminum one unless you are doing some serious consistent drag racing. There are not too many original Shelby's on the drag circuits anymore. The weight savings might help in handling a little but you probably will not be able to notice it. A BB 69 Shelby is not known for it's finesse on the road course anyway ;) . Also if you go with the PI intake it is slightly taller then the CJ version and so you will not want to run the Bakelite factory spacer if you don't want air cleaner to hood fitment issues. I used to be one to suggest this swap but all in all you will not be gaining much if anything and most people want to keep their Shelby's original especially if there in not much to gain. Not to say there is anything wrong with personalizing ones car. If go fast is the deal forget the PI intake and go with the blue thunder version that makes more HP then ether the cast iron CJ or PI. The problem with the blue thunder is it will not look stock but then the PI one will not ether. Just some of my thoughts and opinions. Bob

Thanks for the cast iron intak info. I have heard the same from a couple other Shelby enthusiasts. I think that I will go with the original cast iron now that I have heard the facts.
