HISTORIC GOODWOOD REVIVAL DONATES $8,355 TO THE CARROLL SHELBY FOUNDATION IN HONOR OF FOUNDER GARDENA, Calif. – Feb. 1, 2013 – Established by automotive icon and racing legend, Carroll Shelby, The Carroll Shelby Foundation received a $8,355 donation from the 2012 Goodwood Revival, which honored the automotive legend during its historic festival from Sept. 14-16, in England this year. The revival hosted a special race on Saturday, Sept. 15, called the Shelby Cup, to pay tribute to Carroll’s most distinguished vehicle – the Shelby Cobra. “The Goodwood Revival’s celebration of Carroll Shelby’s life during the festival was remarkable,” said Jenni Shreeves, executive director of the Carroll Shelby Foundation. “It was touching that so many of his international supporters wanted to honor him and his contributions to racing.” Considered by many to be one of the world’s most important motor racing events, the Goodwood Revival is a three-day festival commemorating racing from the 1920s through mid-’60s. This year, the revival honored automotive icon, manufacturer and racecar driving legend Carroll Shelby. For one time only, the finest collection of significant and authentic racing Shelby Cobras ever assembled in the UK gathered for “The Shelby Cup.” To mark the 50th anniversary since Carroll Shelby’s introduction of the initial versions of this cult sports car, the 2012 Revival featured a grid exclusively made up of 30 Cobras including the special-bodied aerodynamic Cobra-based coupés. This special all-Cobra race was a 45-minute two-driver competition, with driver changes in the pits between 15 and 30 minutes. Race entrants helped generate funds for the donation to the charity.
