    Hey guys,
I don't know much about the new mustangs. Is there a difference between the Shelby GT and a GT500? Or are they the same thing??? Thanks

The GT500 has 500hp and the Gt has 319hp. There are of coarse other differences like one has a supercharger, the other doesn't and etc.

ALSO the GT 500 is a 5.4 V8 and the Shelby GT is a 4.6 V8, major differance.

Let's not forget the $10,000 to $15,000 (or more) difference in price. Different engine / hp numbers to be sure, but also a very different ride from one car to the other because of weight, suspension, etc.

Let's not forget what may be the key non-tech difference.

    The GT500 is a 100% Ford-produced production car.
The SGT is a car modified by Shelby Autos from a "wholesaled" production car and then resold by Shelby Autos thru the dealer network.

And don't forget the Price & ADP (Additional Dealer Profit) differance.

Calling the GT, "GT350" would have been appropriate IMHO.

289, Naturally Aspirated, 350+ HP, 8000 RPM redline and a weight of no more than 3100 pounds might actually get me to buy American. It'll probably never happen that way. :)

Has anyone driven both the GT and the GT500 and can give a "seat of the pants" feel between the two?

GT 500 is more of a beast in a straight line when the 500 hp can be utilized for what they are worth. The ride is a little bit softer than the SGT or GT-H, in my opinion. Not "soft," but softer. The SGT has a more rigid suspension package, little less weight, and different front / rear weight ratios. You feel the road more and some say it is more responsive, but that's still talking about a 4000 pound American car with a live rear axle, so take it as that.

Maybe someone who drives a GT 500 more regularly can give their perspective on the differences?

The sales people call them that now! That's how it was introduced to me, hence my sign-in.

Most people can tell a differance between a stock motor and a 5 HP gain, so I think a gain of 180HP between the two cars would be easily felt.......

I've only driven my 2007 GT but it is not very impressive. It's a bit faster than my 2000 Mustang Gt but I swear my '90 GT (which I no longer have) seemed much faster and quicker off the line.

Well I am VERY impressed with my GT500. I haven't driven a SGT but I did drive a new mustang GT and I also owned a 91 mustang GT and the GT500 is just so much more. I'm very happy with the performance, especially after a CAI and tune.

I had a chance to rent the Hertz ShelbyGt in PHX last week, and, I hate to say it, but, I was not very impressed. It felt very heavy and weak off the line. It did feel a little stronger when driving and shifting down to 2nd (30-80mph). I just kept thinking...man, for $40k-50k...this is not worth it.

I think I need to go to a dealer and drive a GT500!!!

I imagine adding a supercharger to the SGT would make it a completely different animal.

Without a doubt. Unfortunately, some of us don't want to alter the cars. But for the money I think a Roush is a better bet.

Have 4k miles on my GT500 and it is a great and responsive accelerator from any rpm or gear. Don't mess with this car going straight! I do not really like the clutch feel, however am going to have tge SS package installed, and expect better feel and responsiveness then.

Our son has a SGT w/ Paxton supercharger, big brakes, etc. It is an absolute joy to drive in any situation. Right now I would prefer the SGT...but I expect this to change when the real venom shows up!! Mirrorman:thumbup:

I have both a 2005 Roush and a 2008 GT500. No comparison. The GT500 is much faster and better riding. The roush suspension is much stiffer and on bumpy roads tends to bounce all over the place. Just my 2 cents worth.
