Does anyone have a list of the names of the factory Ford colors for the Cobras from 63-67? Believe Sun Viking blue was one.
Just interested while reading through "Cobra : the first 40 years" .
    Thx
    Chris

Chris...with the exception of some Comp 289s and the 427 Comp and S/Cs, all the Cobras were painted in England...

I had this list of stock standard colors for the MK III 427...

    Guardsman Blue A-1630
    Charcoal (Lincoln Charcoal Frost) A-1786
    Ivy Green (Custom) A-1738
    Raven Black A-946
    Maroon (Custom)
Silver (1965 Lincoln Silver Mink) A-1784
    White - A-1347
    Rangoon Red A-1440-R

I will have to dig a bit for my list for the Mk I and Mk II colors.

...and, I guess, to round out the info here...

The 427 Comp and S/C cars came over bare (unpainted) and were painted to order at the Shelby facility. Besides the stock colors, the list below contains all the original, non-standard (as shipped) colors for the Mk III Comp & S/C. Several of these colors were only done on one car.

    Orange
    Ferrari Yellow
    Candy Apple Red
    Ivy Green
    Saphire Blue
    Green
    Silver Green Metallic
    Hertz Gold
    Guardsman Blue
    Rangoon Red
    Navy Blue
    White
    Silver
    Maroon
    Silver Blue Metallic

I can just picture a big burly hairy guy walking in and ordering a new Cobra in "Princess Blue" ......LOL. It would be cool though to see color photos of Cobras in each of the Colors.

I think it was for that very reason that they renamed the color to "Viking Blue." :p

That was the factory team racing color in 1964

Re: Cobra factory colors /productions #'s

Many thanks for your in-depth help, Ron!
As you said, they were painted in the AC factory in England so I suppose they didn't use official Ford colors or did they?
Also, was there ever a breakdown on how many 65-67 427 Cobras were built? I once heard 356 but not sure if accurate and not sure if this included the ones with 428 engines? Anyone know?
Also, did the Cobras come with owners manuals handbooks and were these the "Chassis instruction" books?
    Any help appreciated!
    Chris

Re: Cobra factory colors /productions #'s

    They used R-M paint codes...

    Coil Spring Cobras:
    427 Street Cars - 260
    427 Prototype Competition Roadsters - 2
    427 Production Competition Roadsters - 19
    427 Semi-Competition Roadsters (S/C) - 31
    427 Daytona Super Coupe - 1
    427 Chassis only - 3
    427 COB/COX Cars - 27
427 Paramount Film Cars - 5 (listed for reference- disallowed by SAAC as original)

Total Coil Spring Cobra - 343

...just the little Chassis Manual. :)

I got his info from another website. I don't know how true it is, but it gives some different numbers.
"Some production info on the 427 Cobra: CSX3001-CSX3014 competition models with 427 side oiler motors(14cars). CSX3015-CSX3053 street competition models with 427 side oiler motors(39cars). CSX3054 super coupe with 427 side oiler motor(1car). CSX3055 Ghia bodied Willment racing with 427 side oiler motor(1 car). CSX3056-CSX3100 chassis numbers not used(0 cars) CSX3101-CSX3358 428 motors(248 cars) 427 center oilers(9 cars). Of the 312 427 cobras produced 55cars were 427 side oiler motors, 248 cars were 428 motors, and 9 cars were 427 center oilers. (Source: Syracuse All Ford)"

There is only one thing that can be said about your source, :noway: :noway: :noway:

It's possible they arrived at the 312 number by excluding the 27 COX/COB coil spring chassis and the 3 cars sold as chassic only and CSB3054 used for the Super Coupe. 343-27-3-1 = 312

The statement that cars CSX3101 to CSX3358 only included 9 427's is incorrect. Nearly all the cars past CSX3302 were 427's rather than 428's.

Comp cars were not produced in CSX sequence. Don't tell Jack that CSX3020 isn't an original Comp car!

Perhaps they should purchase a Registry. :p

Okay, sorry about that. I think I got it from a website for a Ford Dealership and that was the numbers they had posted. I appreciate the correction! Thanks.
