I have found an alumkinum t-10 trans, its a ford unit. It has the following casting numbers on it... The casting #s on the side of trans housing are T10M-1 W.G. DIV. on side cover are T10-148B Then stamped on back edge of housing next to tail housing spacer in small stamping is D295 2 What year is this correct for? and how do i tell? Thanks - Roger
Re: aluminum t-10 is this correct>? From the numbers you have given a date can't be determined however a date should be in the casting M D Y just beside the numbers raised that you mentioned. This is only a casting date not a assembly date. Good find of a hard to find part. If its the right one it should be worth quite a bit!!
Re: aluminum t-10 is this correct>? there is no castiung number under those numbers on this trans...... could they have worn off? or is that D295 2 number it? - Roger
Re: aluminum t-10 is this correct>? The photo is from ebay that you are looking at. In the other photo the shifter is mounted toward the main housing. This transmission will not fit mustang without cutting the floor or changing the tail housing to accept the shifter towards the back of the tailshaft.
Re: aluminum t-10 is this correct>? yeah, i know. i have an iron t10 sitting here that i can swap the tailshafts on, but only shelbys got the aluminum t10 in ford vehicles, didnt they?
Re: aluminum t-10 is this correct>? You may want to inquire more on gear ratios and not think that only early shelbys received these transmissions. Borg Warner was in the business of building products for a larger market than shelby. The transmission you are looking at may be one of the ones used for shelby with the tailshaft changed to fit the falcon but it may not have been either.
Re: aluminum t-10 is this correct>? Hi guys, This is another 65 Shelby uncertainty. My T-10M1 (housing) and M7 (extention) are both datecoded: 6-9-65 and F-7-65 respectively. My friend has two 65 Shelby 65 T10-M1s and they are both dated on the housing only 4-12-65 and another friend has one in his original 65 that has no datecodes on neither housing nor extension. Mine at the top here came out of a 66 Shelby GT350. The other two came out of two 65 cars in the over 400 serial number and the last one came out of a 65 car in the mid 200 serial numbers. To me this looks like Ford didn't get datecoded gearboxes until 300-400 serial numbers. Have seen other earlier ones without datecodes as well. The code at the bottom of the spacer between the housing and extention, does anybody know how to read that. Is it a datecode or assembly date or something else? /Texas Swede
Ok..here is one for you..was the M-1 trannys put in at the factory or by shelby? And when they went full cast was ford putting them in or shelby.. is there a solid known month in 66 when they went all cast? Our car is a late march build up and we want to know which tranny is going to be correct..
Jimmy, the original T-10 in 6S1757 (3/29/66 scheduled build) is cast iron so I would strongly suspect your original trans was the same.
cool....sooooo did the later all cast have the M1 close ratio gears in them? It would be hard to think they would put just a regular t10 in the shelby...
AFAIK yes but I certainly don't know for sure if all of them did . This would be a good question for Howard.
