Where can I see detailed pictures of the original(not continuation cars) Super Snake GT500? Is there a book on it or a website w/ pictures?
    Thank you

A Shelby Forums member named Charley is the current owner. You could send an email or private message him and ask for a few pictures. Click here to link to his profile. Good luck!

Yes I have the Super Snake. The guy listing his red car on www.teconectamos.com is misleading. His car is not a Super Snake. He describes his car and then puts text about my car like it belongs to his car. They only made one and it is the white one I have.

Hey Charlie----Your car is the best of the best. I remember a video on the internet of your car doing the tire test in Texas. Do you have the video and if so is there any chance of getting a copy. Can you imagine, 170 MPH with 4:11 gears. My white car with the blue stripes in my picture above has a 427 tunnel port. It is the lowest milage[in the registry] with 4600 miles.

    Hi,
If I don't recall wrong, there was an article in the Dragstrip magazine
in Aug. of 1967 about the Super Snake. I think I have it somewhere.
The car didn't have the Cobra aircleaner or Cobra Le Mans
valve covers on the 427. The price mentioned in the aricle was $7500
and Mel Burns' Ford was going to build 50 of them but ended
up with only one. The question is, did Shelby make the Super Snake
or did Mel Burns' Ford. I don't know for sure but I think a guy named
Don McCain was the builder at Mel Burns. The article had pictures of
the Traction Masters, headers, remote oil filter etc. One fine car with
a lot of history. Wish I was the owner.
    Texas Swede,

Re: 1967 Shelby GT500 Super Snake pix needed

    The video is here.. http://www.comfortcarconnection.com/ShelbyVideo/Video.html

The August 67 drag strip magazine shows the chrome valve covers and air cleaner that it currently has, not regular Shelby stuff. My understanding was shelby built the car. Don Mcain used to work for Shelby but was at Mel Burns at the time. He wanted to market 50 of them but they were too expensive. It is still not clear if Don came up with the idea after Shelby had built it or if Don thought up the build. I tried to ask Carroll about it at SAAC 30. He said something like.."Hell, I don't know. It was 40 years ago. Lots of people say they have one of my old cars. If it makes Don feel better, let him take credit for it." At that point I gave up asking him. Maybe if someone close to Carroll could get him to slow down and watch the video it might spark a memory. I don't think he remembered the car and wasn't interested. I think it now has about 24000 miles on it. I was also told that the Lemans engine was kinda pilfered from a group of engines that were being tweaked for the Ford Gt's. They returned them all except one and told them they blew it up.

I was trying to buy one of those Die Casts on eBay!! I believe that Charley's Super Snake is the single most "Historicly Significant" GT500 in existence. the second Car that even comes close would be Jim Morrison's GT500 and it does not exist anymore. and then of course "My GT500"! why you might ask??? because it is the one in MY Garage!! unless I am missing something, the Suoer Snake is the Only GT500 that did any kind of Speed duty in it's day. Carroll Shelby himself is on Film driving the car at over 145 Miles per hour testing tires. who else has a 67 GT500 that did that?? and Charley is probably one of the most Qualified Car Collectors in the Country to maintain this Ultimate Car.

I found the article in Drag Strip from 67. Read it again and drooled
over the pictures. The newer pictures after the restoration looks
exactly like the pictures in the old magazine.
Have a memory of seeing the car in Texas many years ago.
Did an earlier owner come from Texas?

Hello Charlie. Yes, yours is the only Super Snake made. As my history goes, your Shelby was built at Shelby American and were to be sold (only 50) thru the Ford dealer. The first time I saw your Super Snake is in 72, when owned by Bobby Pierce in FT Worth. We were in Texas region of SOA (now defunct Shelby Owners of America), and drove everywhere- autocross, drags, etc. I have many movie films of your car when we went to events every weekend. I'll try to dig them up, as it was over 33 yrs ago. It is old regular 8 movie film- read no sound. There are movies of our club at Brooks Air Force base in S. Antonio where Bobby drove the Super Snake on the road course. The movie film shows the tire breaking loose as he neared me from torque in 3rd gear. I think I also have many slides of his (your) car at several car shows. The last time that we drove on the street was Hulen Mall autocross in FW. I think this was about 78 or 79. I still have my 67 and 68 GT 500 since I owned since 72. If any more info needed, you can email me at johnthomas702632@aol.com. Thx. Boss3025speed

Charley, here is a couple of questions for you as I'm building a 1/25th scale model of your car.
The wheels. Doesn't the SAAC registry state the wheels were Magstars?
The radio antenna: is yours on the front fender, or, rear quarter? (and which side)
    Thanks, nice car

    Charley and others,

I am new to this forum but I recently purchased one of the 75 continuation Shelby Supersnakes from Unique Performance in Irving Texas. I will be getting 1 of the 7 convertibles Supersnakes they are making.

I saw the making of the car on "Rides" on The Discovery Channel and I had to have one. They were all sold out but I worked out a deal with someone who had purchased 1 of the 7 convertibles.

They just received the the donor car this week which is a 1967 Convertible Mustang. The car is being stripped down to the frame, blasted, checked for integrity and then built back up. I just received the pictures of the donor car yesterday, hard to believe it will look like the car in the link below but it will.

    VIN # 7T03T243868

    http://www.uniqueperformance.com/Convertible.aspx

I do have a choice of colors and tops but I am sticking with the blue with white stripes and blue interior and top. The car will be done in June and I will bring it to SAAC in 2007.

    http://www.uniqueperformance.com/colorselection.aspx

I understand there are views on original Shelby's vs Continuation Shelby's. When a reporter recently asked Carroll himself he said "the only person who can say it is Shelby or not is me and if I say it is a Shelby then it is a f...ing Shelby. I just wanted this particular car, just loved the looks of it.

The car will have a 427 Aluminum engine that puts out 525hp and then a 200hp Supercharger for 725hp. 0-60 in 3.6-3.7. That will throw you back in the seat a little!

    Specs here:

    http://www.uniqueperformance.com/supersnakeGT500E.aspx

I will post pictures of the restoration if anyone is interested.
