Thats the way I've seen them. I would even wager the prototypes had small letter as well.
For 68s I think you'd only find small letter on pre strike cars, then large letter, then blackwall around April

I've seen some shorter ones but thought the were replacement ones (1 5/8?) The 350s and 500s called the same part # for both.
I really don't know. I once had a 2" diamond screened version with FoMoCo and a C5 part # silkscreened and I looked it up. IIRC it was for a 65/66...
