I'm going to be selling a stripped engine block and crankshaft supposedly from a '67 or '68 Shelby Mustang for someone I know, unfortunately I'm not too familiar with mechanics, so I'm hoping I can get some help on here from people more knowledgeable than myself identifying the engine. it's been sitting on an engine stand in his garage for the past few years and he's now moving and doesn't want to take it. He told me that its from a '67 or '68 Shelby Mustang, unfortunately I can't find a VIN on the block (I believe these were required in '68, which leads me to believe that it's a '67) and the only numbers on the block don't seem to match up with casting numbers that I can find for these engines. The numbers on the block are 86 over 352 on one end and 352 over 60 on the other end as well as 48 on the top of the block and an 8 inside the block towards the bottom of it. So any help identifying this engine would be greatly appreciated!

It also has some light rust on it so I was also wondering the best way/ acceptable ways to remove the rust from it before I sell it.

Those are mold numbers and not helpful in identification.

There sHould be a casting date between the oil filter and pan rail. Possibly a number on the side of the block, outside the number one cylinder.

Pictures would be helpful. Here is a very good identification page....
