    Hello,

I have a 428CJ block and I'm trying to figure out the date code. It appears to have a small 8 or 9 or 0 with two small dots under it. The number looks like a blob but the two dots are very clear (see attached picture) Date code is ?J12. I've read that the two dots are likely found under a 0 so as to separate the 59 and 69 date codes. Can anyone confirm this or add any information ?

    Thanks.

The 0 with two dots under it is for 1970.

That was my first thought but there is a block listed on eBay (auction# 180637638976) right now that has the two dots under a 9. I don't get it cause the two dots for the 0 make sense but for a 8 or 9, why would they do that ?? Ever see it under an 8 ?

My 68 CJ doesn't have the dots under the 8.

Wish my "blob" was more defined. Check out my pictures and tell me what you think. Depends on which angle you look at it and how the light hits it but it looks like it could be any of the three possible 8, 9 or 0. Did you check out the eBay auction with that 9 that has two dots ?

I would suggest removing the paint, and wire brushing the number to see if you can see some more details. I blew up the last picture 200% it looks to me like a 0 under the paint.

Funny you replied with that, I was actually out in the garage hitting it with a wire brush and taking more pics. I think I need to get another camera, your pic came out perfectly clear. How do you post the pic in the reply like that and what kind of camera are you using ? Check out these pics and let me know what you think.
