Happy Holidays all. I am searching for a (close as I can get) color to paint the forward section of the differential on my 67 GT500. What is left of my original paint appears dark reddish. Most of the pictures I see of restored ones look orangy red gloss. I see them on other Fords in red primer. Any thoughts?

P.S. funny story, we were at the Shelby factory in NV yesterday and took the tour. Our guide said GT350s came out in 1966! He didn't believe us about the 65's as there are none on display.

Try PPG DP74LF red epoxy primer.

Originally more of a sealer than a primer the DP epoxy mention will work fine or you can tint is a little closer to the original color. The finish should be smooth and have a slight gloss IMHO

Don't forget the natural machined areas as long as your going this far ;)

I dont know if you have access to it but, what i did is had my paint supplier shoot some orig. red oxide panels i had with a camera that makes a paint code from the scan. I then convert it to a satin gloss single stage. Your bigger paint suppliers should have one of the cameras.

    True.
It was kind of bizarre. After he stated that GT350s came out in 1966, my girlfriend asked him about the 65's. He said there weren't any and didn't believe her. I told him the stats on 65's and he said they may made some 66's at the end of 65. Funny that out of a group of 30 middle aged Shelby fans, no one else in the crowd chimed in. Obviously the draw here is new cars.

Thanks for the replies. Back to the paint booth.

Hate to single him out. He said he has been there a long time. Interesting that no one set him straight after a few days on the job. Not one other person in our crowd owned an older Shelby. You want some real fun reading, go over to the Team Shelby forum under 1967-1970 Shelby GT500 & GT500KR, and sift through that!
