I was browsing through Tom Corcoran's 'Shelby Mustang' book, and on pages 36 and 37 there are pictures of a '65 GT350R, showing the interior, and of particular interest, the fire extinguisher.

Assuming the extinguisher in the pics is the correct original type (the rest of the car looks pretty authentic) I was pleased to note that it is, as far as I can see, identical to the one in my '67 GT350.

I've no doubt these extinguishers were available in the aftermarket, but I wonder if anyone knows of any stamps or markings that might verify the authenticity of my part.

    Close-up pics would also help.

Hopefully, this link will take you to a pic of the extinguisher in my car -

Considering this car has been in England since about 1972, I think it's pretty neat that this detail is still installed.

    Thanks for any help

    David

    David,

The only shot I see in the link is one about 8 feet away from the fire extinguisher--am I missing something?

If not, a close up--and numbers from your unit--would be needed to assist you further.

    Best regards,

    Neil

Yes, sorry, not a great photo.

I was hoping that this would be enough for others to get an idea of the style of the extinguisher, and be able to let me have details of the ones fitted to the GT350R so that I could compare them with mine.

I'll try to get a better picture this weekend.

    Thanks

    David

I took loads of pictures with my phone and compressed them as .jpg files, but for some reason they won't load onto this site.

Anyway, I had a good look at the extinguisher, and is made by General (same as the tire company?). It doesn't have any SxMS- part numbers on it, but it is date-coded 1967.

Speculating - the car was sold new from Haywards Ford San Jose, which was an official Shelby dealer. Maybe the original owner asked for an extinguisher to be fitted by the dealer, and they chose one that suited - not necessarily a Shelby part, but one they had to hand.

Nice piece of 'in-period' detail to have on the car, but probably nothing to get too excited about.

    Unless anyone knows better...

    Hey - great find!

So it looks like it was an official Shelby aftermarket part - dealer fit.

    Neat.

    Many thanks
