1967 Dual Point Distributor Question

    I have seen seveal version of the dual point distributor for the 67 GT350 Shelby. I have seen three different types. All have the C5OF 12127 E but I have seen AUTOLITE, FOMOCO and MOTORCRAFT logos stamped next left of the date code. The one that I have has the MOTORCRAFT Stamped into it with a date code of 1L6. I feel this is a replacement. I was wondering if someone knew the story of the three different LOGO stamps and what would be correct for the 67 Shelby GT350. Thanks for your help!

    Dan,

    In general the FoMoCo cast distributors were used up through 1966, the Autolites were first used at the start of 1967. The Autolites have a larger hole for the primary wire as the connector end also changed in 67 and the larger hole was needed for the wire to slip through. The Motocraft distributors started showing up in I think 1972, the one you have is a service replacement.

    A 67 GT350 should have an Autolite with a late 66 or 67 date code depending on the car's build date.

    Believe we would find that allot of the 67 GT350s used FoMoCo stamped dual points through the year ;)

    In fact would be interested in a picture of any original 67 with an Autolite one (with a matching date code)

    I do not believe that "Autolite" appears on the distributors until mid 1967. I have not seen one dated prior to July 67, but I have seen FOMOCO ones dated in April 67.

    Thanks guys for the clarification. Hoped some more knowledgeable types would chime in, exactly why I started my post with "In general". Since I don't know much about 67's took my info directly from Bob Mannel's book.

    So do the 67 GT350 FoMoCo distributors have the large or small hole?

    Hi all:

    Intertesting and helpful post.

    I dont want to hijack this post but since were on the topic of distributors does anyone have the little pin and clamp that holds the cap down onto the distributor that they would like to part with?

    My Fomoco distributor for my 67GT350 lacks one.

    I have an early 67 GT 350, built Oct 10/66. Do you think a Mid July/66 dated FoMoCo distributor is out of line for this car or not? I currently have a NOS Autolite dist. in the car dated Oct 20/75 that may be available if I go ahead on the other one.

    I would guess that most would find no issue with that date spread but looking at other examples from San Jose the amount IMHO is more than typical. Dist dates compared to car assembly dates appear to be approx 30-60 days

    Just depends on how exact you want to be. But I think I would get it and run it , until I found a better date. Chances are that no one would really notice

    In my humble opinion, I think a FoMoCo script would correct for most 67 GT 350's. I have often wondered about this same issue. I have a 7D6 dated FoMoCo for my late 67 GT 350. I have seen correct FoMoCo castings dated into 1968. I would also like to know if anyone with an original car actually has a correctly dated Autolite installed.
