I still maintain that the D.S.O. item number is vehicle specific. People have sent me information on cars from the same D.S.O. and the item number has always been different for each car. I think Dave Mathews is trying to break the code so to speak. (Dave, we'd like to help. Let us know if there is anything we can do.) The goal of this project has always been to get a copy of each and every Shelby D.S.O. out there.

I'd like to post a PDF of 89-2609 on my website if you don't mind. Raw scans are probably the best. I can clean them up and make them presentable for posting. Thanks for the contribution! I already have 84-2549, 84-2555, and 89-2608 (for my car) posted and I'll take any others that folks may have. The goal of this project has always been to get a copy of each and every Shelby D.S.O. out there. I'll be happy to act as the archivist. I'm sure Randy would also donate disk space if needed.

I will get the raw scans. Meanwhile, check the following link below. Use the magnifying glass in the uppr right corner. Then click on the picture once enlarged and hold down the mouse and you can drag the picture up and down, you can read all the fine print:

Hi to Roy and Mike and all:The dso process is still similar even today. And I will share some info from a recent conversation with one of Kevin Marti's employees-He says that the DSO item number is used to identify 1 car and most likely used in the final billing of these cars.It can be more complex than this..such as cancelled orders and things, but it is a simple way to make it fit and be able to identify one single car. Also From Dave Mathews-the dates can be confusing and misleading and his goal for the next registry is to have all the DSO info as well as the normal Shelby build info. which really helps put a 40 year old puzzle back together.Cars are put together well in advance on paper, and even assigned vin numbers prior to their build..which was sometimes several months later,so dont let that information fool you.Hope this helps!:):)

The reason Dave will be able to correlate the D.S.O. information with each individual car is that the production order lists the D.S.O. item number. I know this is true for my car and I hope it is true for all the '67s. We'll have to see what he is able to put together.

If anyone wants to contribute to our little project here, please send me raw scans (bit maps work well for this purpose) of any D.S.O. sheets you might have. I'll clean them up, turn them into PDF files, and post them on my website. If people are uncomfortable with accessing them from my site, I'm sure that Randy will donate space here for the purpose of archiving these valuable documents. I'd like to see them accessible to all who are interested.

I'm sure I'm missing something here, but how can the DSO number identify a single car when the DSO sheets show multiple cars, i.e. 89-2609 shows 121 cars under the same DSO?

On your Marti report or Shelby production sheet it lists "D.S.O. Item Number" not to be confused with DSO # on the DSO sheet.

What they call the DSO sheets are actually the Special Vehicle Order
and Parts Specifications. That sheet lists all the specifics of that
package. My DSO sheet number is 84-2555 and it's called 402F package,
i.e. GT500 with a Manual Trans and Thermactor.
The Production Order can be bought from SAAC and it lists your cars
DSO Item Number as said above. That number can also be seen on
    the Marti Report.

Hi again to all,and Thanks to Texas Swede for explaining things in detail.Evidently some people missed the ITEM number part-which is how one car is seperated from the group. Please also realize that Shelby was/is treated by Ford as any "fleet"which now means 6 or more units built alike-so when they are assigned vin numbers on paper they are grouped to assure parts required to assemble them will be available. It does not mean that they all were built (or final assembeled by Ford) all at the same time,or around the same date, often months elapse from the time the order began on paper..to the final build-and they are most often arrainged on the line by color(s)in large batches or groups. It is easy to follow the logic when you understand how fast mass production really can be..The 3225 Shelbys were a blink compared to more than 472,000 mustangs, and Ford had a record year in 1967.And the Shelby build is really scattered for all the hand built cars (which includes Cobras)from 62-67Everything was organized differently within Shelby for 1968 when Ford produced cars. What we are doing is trying to follow the 40 year old paper trail,so if you have a Marti report or a svo form,or production order form it will really help put together this puzzle,at least by order date.

    Group,

There is some interest being generated regarding this subject orver on the SAAC website forum. Mike Herman has been pushing me to start gathering information again. I agree (thanks Mike). Here's the link if you would like to participate: http://www.s-techent.com/DSO1967.htm. Let's see if we can put some more of the pieces together. Thanks.

I need to fill in Date and Sched. Date.
Which are these ones called on the Marti Report? Are they "Actually Built" and "Scheduled For Build"?

Thanks Roy. More than anything I think people should be able to find the DSO sheet their car was made from. It'simportant in the documentatio process and all of us colletors/owners learn a ton in the process. It's kinda of like a puzzle we have all the pieces to and have not quite assembled yet.

I know Dave is working on it and I know he also has the new registry to work on and various other projects for these cars. I think a collection of the masses working together will make some progress on this.

I sent Roy a DSO sheet he did not have yet, it has a 67 GT500 Burgundy color car on it. No one knew one was made, it may not have been but the DSO says it was ordered.

Hi to the group of 67 fans.Just researching the color end of this puzzle and noticed on the saac site, only 29 cars were done in code 6.All except 1 are G.T.350's with various options-- The 1 was a G.T.500. So it appears that this color was really rare, which is most likely why none show up on the chart. We are still waiting to see more news-in the new registry currently under construction Dave is planning to show all info.so if you have any to share be sure to send it to him.The 2 known special colors have a unique Shelby vin and only 1 is known to the club.In the meantime,I am trying to encourage everyone to look for unknowns. The mystery can be fun!!
    Regards P.D.

I'm not quite sure how to display the oddball information yet. Once I figure it out, I'll get it posted.

Even with Dave pulling all the information together, that doesn't mean that we can't continue with our parrallel project. If you have any information to share, I'd still like to collect it. You can email me scans or mail me copies of the D.S.O. sheets. Either way, I'll post the results on my website. As allways, I'll still accept the raw data for inclusion in the spread sheet. Like Patty says, the mystery can be fun.

    # 2008 with inboards? about 300 cars too late for that . Could they have possibly been changed during a previous accident or restoration? Just a thought. Bob

    Bob,

As you may recall, some states had regulations regarding the minimum distance between headlights. Ford even offered a complete kit to switch over from outboards to inboards (C7ZZ 8200-A). The kit included the following: (1) S7MS 8210-B, Grille Assy.; (1) S7MS 8B322-B, Bracket - L.H. Headlight; and (1) S7MS 8B323-B, Bracket - R.H. Headlight. The car could have been converted to meet this requirement. Does anyone know if the State of Florida had headlight restrictions?

Roy , many enthusiasts may not be aware that Shelby only took the time to distinguished between states that restricted the close headlights and the ones that didn't until approximately mid production after that it was deemed more cost effective to outfit all of the rest of production with the outboard lights rather then worry about which cars got what. I had a talk with one of the employees back at the Portland convention . He was a teenager at the time working at SA and his job was installing the grills. This employee confirmed the change over to me. In his words they had a stack of inboard grills and parts and when it got down to the bottom they started using only the outboard grill assembly's until the end of the model year. From my observations this change over to all outboard grills happened sometime approximately in the 1700 to 1900 range. He didn't remember if the factory kept track of the change over VIN or not, he said he certainly didn't. The inboard headlights have always been more popular with their distinct look I know back in the 70's and 80's of everybody who had a outboard car converting it to inboards which explains many inboards on later cars. I even remember a urban legend in the early 70's that distinguished if the 67 Shelby was made at SA if it had inboards and made back East if it had outboards. The cars with outboards were looked at as not being as good as if not made at SA. Just one more reason for many of the conversions from out board to inboard in the past. We have had many discussions about this same controversial subject in the past. Bob

Oops, my bad. In my rush to get my last message posted before dinner burned, I inadvertently stated the the kit converted from outboard to inboard. I also didn't really read Snakeman's message. My bad again. So, the C7ZZ 8210-A kit converts from inboard to outboard. Which means that my response to Bob was totally out in left field. I humbly retract my comments regarding the conversion. Chalk it all up to a stressful day (and maybe a senior type moment).

So are you guys saying that my car, #2100, had outboards originally? Every piece of paperwork and old picture has shone it with inboards. Also, it was originally sold in New Mexico (no high beam law) at one of the larger Shelby dealers. Maybe I have been out of the loop, but this is the first I have heard of the "1700 to 1900" total change over.

10-4! "On out of the loop" I've been out of the loop for 37 years now since I have been acquainted with Shelby cars, I've never ever heard of such?! :laf:   I want to be a "COLD-COORS" Judge Because I would have to drink past "LOOPY" to believe that.
