    Hi guys

Has anyone of you guys those typical R model gauges in his car?
Could you poste some pictures? Is there anything you don´t like
about them? Like failure of instruments while racing? Just let me
know some of your impressions please.

    Thanks alot
    Bye Jerry

SW gauges are very durable and easy to read.

    Hi Bob

Just saw that you are a SAAC Shelby concours judge.
Can you tell me wich tachometer the R Models had?
Some i see with a white pointer some have the red.
The ones with the red are (i guess) out of a 65 GT 350
where it was mounted in the center of the dash.
    So what was original??
Please tell me the white like i just ordered at Tony Branda.

    Bye Jerry

Both the CS and SW gauges were used . The CS gauges are less accurate and less durable .The CS tach has a red needle. There are red needle SW gauges as will as white. I have a red needle SW gauge in my 65 GT350 R model. I like the red because it stands out against the white of the RPM marks and my peripheral vison can pick out the red needle better. Before you ask my GT350 started life as a street GT350 and was converted to a R specs early in it's life and was raced as a independent comp car in the Midwest back in the day. I vintage race it a couple times a year. SW gauges were also used in the comp Cobra's .

    Hi Bob

Again for my understanding: You said "Both the CS and SW gauges were used . The CS gauges are less accurate and less durable"
I allways thought the manufacturer of the gauges is SW and for Shelbys
they just put the CS on them instead of the SW.
Or did i understand something wrong??

P.S. Where can i see pictures of your car? How much weight did you save
by turning it in an R Model. Do you remember the difference before to now?

    Bye Jerry

Jerry, let me restate it in a different way .The CS Tach in the street Gt350 was sometimes seen in the R model. The CS gauges were not made by Stewart Warner. Stewart Warner Tachs with white needle and Stewart Warner gauges with red needle were also used because the Stewart Warner gauges were a more durable and accurate gauge. My 1965 GT350 was converted to R model specs in 1966 by it's owner back then and raced as a independent. Back in the day with all the parts available it was less expensive for independent racers to convert a car to R specs then to buy one from Shelby. I don't recall the weight savings that a R model saved over a street model. I would guess about 300 pounds . I currently don't have any pictures of my cars posted anywhere. The best of luck with your project.

    Hi Bob

Thanks alot i´m just so precise because i want this car as close
to the original as possible. But what i have experienced is that
even pros can´t tell me what was original and what wasn´t.
Probably because there were not even two R Models that where
the same can this be? Like we have discussed with the horn
switches. There are too many differences between each models.
For now i stick to the gauges i ordered at T Branda and concentrate
on the rest of the car.

    Bye Jerry

I do not see any thing wrong with the set up that Branda sells . I don't know if you are going to make your car as accurate as to have the R model seats but I have a R model seat that is a large size that i am going to stick on ebay . I use a medium . I am 6 ft 195. If you are a big guy it will work if not a big guy it is you will be more comforable when street driving but will slid around in the seat while racing . I don't street drive my car because of the open exhaust. If you have any interest PM me.
