    Freddy,

Yes, I believe the word "knitted" is the correct description for the comfort weave upholstery. If your Marti Report lists the interior code as "5A", it should be black comfort weave.

    Best regards,
    Eric

Thank you,Eric.5A it is,so now I can get it right.
Does this mean that the change came early december, then?
Assume that your car does not have the grill emblem, that is
an item I'm going to miss....Now I need to remove the chrome
on the headlight rings, had them rechromed last time I restored
As said earlier, learning something new all the time.
    Regards Freddy

An old friend told me this: "it is easier to paint over chrome, than it is to chrome over paint". So, try to just paint them, after taking off any wax there might be.
And, is the rear seat smooth? Because it is unlikely anyone needed to change both the fronts and the rears seat upholstery. Usually you find the rear seat undamaged.
I'm trying to figure out where I got that "mid-December availability" out of.
But, it could be light the scoop brake lights, right in front of me ...somewhere.

    Freddy,

Yes, my car does not have a grill emblem.

I think Roddster answered your headlight trim rings and upholstery issue/questions very well. I am not sure about when the comfort weave upholstery made its debut. I have read December of '66, but am not sure if it can be pinned to a specific day......

    Best regards,
    Eric

Roddster, thanks for the input. My rear seat is plain as the fronts are,but my front seats does not have the fiber glass backs(?).Bought a complete set two years ago, that need some repair. So,this might indicate the interior were changed over the years before I got it?I got lucky through a SAAC rep in Florida, got info on the car from summer '68 and up at DMV.Some eleven owners before me,one had it twice.Think the car had some rough years before I got my hands on it,at one time it were drag raced-a note saying not for use on the road.
Appreciate your input as well,Eric. You certainly have a beautiful car!

Didn't the door hinges also change during the 1967 year?

I'm back looking at how to best do this. I think that there should be four categories: Shelby changes (both G.T.350 and G.T.500), G.T.350 only changes, G.T.500 only changes, and Ford changes. Here is the list so far:

    Shelby American Production Changes

    • Inboard
    • Outboard

    2. Grilles
    • One Piece
    • Two Piece

    3. Headlight Trim Rings
    • Body color
    • Chrome

    4. Headlight Buckets
    • “Early style” held with clamps
    • “Late style” bolted to plate

    5. Grille Emblem
    • Not installed
    • Installed

    6. Air Extractor (Upper Scoops) Lights

I'm not putting the standard wheels on the list as they were the same (I think) all through the production year. Correct me if I'm wrong. Feel free to add to this list in the appropriate categories. I'd like to keep this format for now to make data input easy.

I've been pretty busy lately and haven't been able to devote the time necessary to do this project justice. This has all the looks of a long term project. Please be patient and I'll get it all pulled together. Thanks.

    Looks like it's nailed.

Now, I'm confused about the tailpipes. Are you saying there is a type that has the 1 3/4" pipe welded to the necked up 2 1/2" outlet, or are you saying there are the 4 pipe Mustang Gt type? Or is it something else?

    Roddster,

That one came from shelbyguy (post #33). We'll have to ask him. Shelbyguy, can you explain? Thanks.

There were two types of tips used . The first style was used on early cars . That style had the small end (that slipped over the ford pipe that came from the transverse) welded to the point were the bell shapped part transitioned into the 3 inch outlet. The later style (FYI the only one that was serviced) was made in one continuious formed piece with no welding . The question I still have is if the tips were installed at Ford or Shelby . If I were to guess I would say Shelby. I know that the Ford line would not be set up to cut out the rear valence on the early cars and the tips could not be installed without the cutout. After the later style formed rear valance came into use the tips could have been left to Ford to install but I don't know.

Bob.. (haven't checked yet) but one would think we could look at the add/delete sheets. If listed there.... Ford did it. If not then it was a Shelby thing.

Don't recall seeing it ... but can't be sure

Don't forget the two-piece front spoiler (not talking about grill). A couple hundred cars had a two-piece tongue and grove spoiler. Split right down the middle and then fitted together. The front end was warping because SA took the fiberglass out of the mold too quickly. They switched from a one-piece to a two-piece and then back to a one-piece. My car is 467 and has a two-piece.

Might want to choose a term other that "spoiler" ;)

But yes there was a one piece and two piece (as well as sub versions possibly) of the front ends

    Hello Roy and all,

    What about these items:

    1. Two piece grills - didn't they start out installed like the one piece grills in a slanted position behind the nose piece and then switch to being installed vertically in the nose section openings? If so, should there be two types of two piece grills listed?

    2. Some early GT 500s used an air cleaner top that did not have the COBRA lettering cast into them. Should this be listed as a unique feature that was later changed to the air cleaner tops that do have the COBRA letters cast into them?

    3. On the under dash gauge assembly, most early cars used a "block off plate" that was held in place by an interference fit for lack of a better term. Later cars used two screws to hold the block off plate in place. Should this be listed as a running change?

    Thanks for your time.

    Best regards,
    Eric

    1. Let's get some opinions.

    2. OK, we can track this in the G.T.500 category.

    3. Wasn't this my Item No. 23?

You have to watch that "I've seen numerous cars" kind of thing. Over the years, one or mod owners have added/deleted/modified/rebuilt wrecked - these cars. So, you have to ask the owners; how original is it. If you hear the car was pulled out of a junk year and rebuilt, well, there goes a lot of the "was built that way" positivity to the veiw.
I've got an early car, and I wish I had a nickle for every person who told me "I've never seen them with the scoop lights".
And, for instance, I've seen more than a couple replys here about a multiple piece front end. I've never noticed that and I've been to 5-6 SAAC conventions, and the Indiana SAC spring fling numerous times. All with out ever seeing one. But, they must have built some. Due to the replys here.

Hi to all 67 folks! hope the New Year is kind to everyone.Roy just to suggest a few items:You have 2 # 2"s on the list.I agree with eric and roddster,we should have the 1 piece slanted grille with the grille section. These are the earliest in the build--I often call them the handbuilts.Item 7 brake scoops should include the different ducts I have mentioned before.Functional/center ducted.functional lower ducted.non functional.Item 16 hoods. We need to add louvered fiberglass to the list.Item 18 gray terminal blocks are metal, black ones are phenolic,or bakelite.Item 21 wheels, should we not include the 15" steel wheel as it was only on a Shelby..not a Mustang option. And lastly item 24 for the very few of us with hand lettered vin plates...also I would like to mention that I still have yet to see an original paint car with the raised type of taillamp panel..they will not work with the metal boxes inside the trunk.if we look at taillamp panels we should mention the early no flange type-the next flange type that is bonded to the taillamp panel, and the later flange style that is riveted to the panel normally with 5 evenly spaced rivets.Raised panels are replacements IMHO And with all that said, you are to be congratulated on a very well put together list. Thanks for all your time and effort!!:) P.D.

Gaines will confirm the two-piece front-end. They had all kinds of warping problems somewhere around car number 200. They finally figured out by letting the front-end cool a lille longer before they took the mold off they could stop the warping.
