Correction: While three 1967 GT500's received 427 engines by special order at Shelby American, ONLY ONE was a special model called The Super Snake. My mistake, the car found in my neighborhood was one of the three with a 427 lightweight engine package.
I believe there was a short article in the Shelby American a few years ago about the one found in Merced. I will try to get you the info when I go to Merced next time. Maybe there is something in the registry also. I will work on it.
Charley, would you happen to know a guy by the name of Larry Cleland? I met him many years ago at a car event that your town hosted. He was driving Dick Smith's CSX3035 around that weekend. Larry seemed to have a few toys of his own if I remember correctly.
The other two are in the registry but I don't remember their #'s. Yes Larry is a friend. His son Ritchie was here today. We do track events together. The Clelands have been into Shelbys for a long long time.
Charley, I asked Carroll about your car on Saturday. He remembers driving it around the Goodyear test track. He said he drove it 148 miles per hour. He also confirmed that he put 427s in a couple other GT500s as well.
