I know this is a LONG SHOT, but here it goes.

I had a 1968 GT500KR Convertible, automatic, from 1970 to when I sold it in approximately 1975. I would like to know how to locate, and no I don’t have much to go on.
The car had the light green exterior paint, with saddle interior and a white top.

It was sold to two dealer guys coming up from the Carolinas, I lived in Hempstead on Long Island at the time. All I remember about these guy’s is one said “I’m painting this red” – I almost changed my mind that second, and have regretted it since, as I saw them drive away in it.
I have no further information – no VIN. Etc.

Any direction – The trail is cold.
Any way that NYS would still have records?

    Thanks.

Send an email to Vincent Liska 68registrar@saac.com with all the information you have. He might be able to narrow it down.

Good luck trying to find anything from New York. Were you the original owner ? If not, who was ? Where did the car come from orginally (which dealer) ? Did it have air ? Which transmission ? Try www.saacforum.com and ask for Mongo .

I checked the production numbers and only 40 lime/saddle convertibles were built. If you identify the top, you can probably cut that in half. When you single the KRs, you are into single digits (less than cars).

This should be easy to figure out, but you will need Mongo's help.

    Guy's,

Thanks for the leads. - This is not going to be easy

    Coralsnake,

I was the second owner. I bought from a L.I. guy who was going to school in Florida - I believe Miami. At the time I remember him saying he purchased it in ny.
The car was an automatic (C-4 I think), 428 CJ, with air.

Again thank you very much for the leads.

You need to get with Mongo.

The car would have a C6 transmission behind a CJ.

The numbers of cars with those features, shipped to NY would only be one or two.

It's too bad you dont have any more numbers.

You definately need Mongo. If it came from that part of NY it most likely came from Larsen but also could have been Gotham

You mentioned selling it to those guys from the Carolinas...How did they know you had it for sale?? Hemmings?? SAAC Marque classified??? This may give you a lead to finding who you are looking for!! Those old ads or magazines are still around..many being sold on Ebay!!
If there were two buyers that should make it easier to find "them"

I apologize for not getting back sooner, I was out of state.

    Coralsnake,
Yes – my bad the automatic was the C-6.
I’m searching some OLD paper work, maybe something will come up.
I did remember that the original owner changed the convertible top from black to white. As I recall the car spent most of it’s time in Florida, and due to the sun he changed it to white.

    TLEA,
Thanks, but I’m not familiar with those dealers, and I would guess they would not have records on the sale.

    Steveshelbymustang,
Unfortunately, no to any of those. At the time I advertised it in the New York Times.

Thanks everyone for your leads. I’ll try your recommendation of Mongo and see where it takes this trip.
    Thanks again.
