Carroll has always had a way with words. Whether they are words of wisdom, humor, or otherwise, he has always had a vernacular all his own so I ask you: What are some of your favorite Carroll Shelby Quotes??? I'll start things off with the infamous...
Well it didn't take long for this post to go south "I'm tired of them," Shelby says. "I want the registrations and the records under my control. They've made a lot of money but never counted me in on anything. I don't want my legacy to go down under their thumbprints."
Hmmm, I wouldn't think that is one of your favorite quotes. Thanks for your participation Pete. Randall
Sept. 94. While being interviewed for the Jan. 95 Mustang Monthly " All painters are just drunks" I took it kinda personal since after the interview we went down and photogaphed Shelby in two cars that I painted. Might have been funny if I had been drinking! Damn I need a Beer now. Larry
Since those words are in quotes, may I ask when by-whom, how were they recorded? Are they from someone's recollection? -- One of my favorite Shelby quotes is: "I'm not going to take this defeatist attitude and listen to all this crap any more from all these people who have nothing except doomsday to predict." <brainyquote.com> Of course my fave is "Ferrari's ass is mine." ;-) What guy! ;-)
Taken directly from the press release issued by Team Shelby, as a direct quote of CS Picked up by this article... http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071203/ANA04/712030330
Thanks, Ron. -- Here's another Shelby quote that gives some insight into CS beyond cars... “My business is automobiles, really. What I love are [classic] airplanes, steam locomotives, and dirt.” <autoexecmag.com>
"Let's call the little car the GT350. If the car's good, the name won't matter, and if it's no good, the name won't matter." "I'm not particularly good at anything, I just like to bring people with great talents together and see what's going to happen." "... we might build cars with a warranty that lasts till you drive through the gate." "I don't think you can put a plaque on the dash saying, "only to be driven by a competent driver"."
I think I saw this someplace from him.-- If a little is good, more is better , too much is just enough.---S.
That quote reminded me of one... "There is never enough horsepower......just not enough traction." Best Regards, Vern
To Enzo Ferrari (around 1957?) Supposedly Enzo made three offers to Shelby to be a member of the factory team. At one of them, in Enzo's office, Shelby was so insulted at the lowball offer (it might have been $40 wk/mo?) plus Enzo's insistance on taking some of the prize money if he won, Shelby stormed out saying "Someday ah-am gonna come back here and beat your ass...." Ferrari's translator probably softened the words but Shelby's expression probably made it clear he was ticked.
Just saw this on an add for sale on ebay......my new fav pertaining to shelby. "His parents named him Carroll"........ "Nobody is laughing now!" (The add has a pic of a red 07 gt500 under the quote Best Regards, Vern
I've always wanted to know the significance of the #98. As a driver Carroll's used it on his bird cage Masaritti, his Ferrari, the Cobra's and the GT350's. So when I got the chance yesterday to ask him he replied, "Hell it's just a number. Sometimes I used 11, sometimes 7, sometimes 7-11. I won a couple of races in a row using 98 so I kept using it".
