    Description/History:

This Shelby is an early 1966 "carryover" car that was picked up at the factory by Bill Mavity, a salesman for Archie Cochran Ford in Billings, MT on 10/27/1965. The original owner, James Phelps of Livingston, MT added an over the counter wood steering wheel. He campaigned the car in SCCA ralleys and gymkhanas. The car was later purchased in April 1972 by James Knudson of Boise, ID, who used the car as a daily driver while attending college. Next the car was purchased by Bill Clements of Hardin, MT in June 1975. He used 6S188 as a daily driver until he put it in storage in 1978. Later, the car was purchased by Doug Cresanta of Allendale, NJ in December of 1991. At this point in time, the Shelby had been stored in a sugar beet warehouse for 13 years. A mechanical restoration was done and the Shelby still has most of its original paint. The Cragers have been restored and a Doug Holmberg exhaust system has been installed along with a Detroit locker. A 1966 package tray was installed as well. The car has been driven to most SAAC conventions since its purchase.

    Doug,

Great looking car and I am glad that you do drive it. After the '67s, the '66s are definitely my second favorite year of Shelby. Take good care of it and please do keep driving and enjoying your car.

    Best regards,
    Eric

Wow, what a car! Do you have any pictures of it before you purchased the car? I would like to see it in that sugar beet warehouse. I love to hear the histories of each car. The original paint looks great! Thanks for sharing Doug!!!

Proof positive that Doug drives his car, look at the plates and then the background. That's not Allendale, NJ! I've known Doug since before he bought this car, back when he only had his '67 G.T.350. To say he's an enthusiast is an understatement. The car still looks as good in these pictures as when I first saw it. Way to go Doug.

    ELJ1st500,

Don't worry, Eric. After several Shelbys thru the years; this one is the "keeper". Will be driving and enjoying it for a long time!

    rsimkins,

Well Roy, I didn't think anyone could remember back that far. But thanks for
the PR. The Shelby is still in California at this time. I'm having some maintenance and upgrades taken care of. When you drive them, you got to take of them. And I only trust my long time friends to do their magic on it.

    rshelby,

Well Randall, your observation is correct. No palm trees in NJ. ( only in hotel
lobbys in pots ) I do have some pictures when it came out of hiding. I will try to figure how they can be put in this format. It sure was an ugly duckling.
Lots of work to bring back the shine on the original paint.
