Hi guys, it's me again. Trying to find the correct paint to use on my dash and interior panels. They are both black, but the dash appears to have a slight metal- flake appearance...almost gives it a metallic dark grey look. The panels in the back of the car appear to be just black. Any suggestions on the correct paint code or Ditzler number for my colors? I have the build sheet, but it isn't really much help for interior paint, just seat colors. Am I missing something? Thanks. 1968gt500
Interior code 5A/6A use charcoal grey metallic, PPG 32586. I would suggest mixing it in laquer for the proper finish and to avoid filling in the grain on the panels. For the record the painted surfaces on the 68 console are semi flat black, not charcoal grey metallic.
"Same" as in Semi-flat or metallic? Also, do you know the code for the semi-flat? Thanks again. 1968gt500
"All" the painted surfaces are charcoal grey metallic "except" the painted surfaces on the Shelby console which are semi flat black as they were outsourced to a vendor. The bracketry (emergency brake bracket, fog lamp switch bracket etc.) and other items attached to the dash would be semi flat or semi gloss black. I typically use a rattle can for those.
One hint is to first paint those pieces that will be Charcoal Metallic (what Ford called black with a thin base of semi-gloss black first. The Charcoal covers poorly (allot of clear in it) so the base allows you to get the color with out allot of coats and that ugly build up. So strip the panels, shoot the base black then a very thin and somewhat dry coat of the Charcoal. Just enough to get the color and a little metallic. Judged a car last weekend where they didn't do this (istead just used the Charcoal) and all the grain was gone and the finish was almost gloss
