Hi Everyone I have the original date coded fuel pump for my car. Does anyone know whether these can be rebuilt? From time to time I see other button top fuel pumps (non hipo) being advertised as "rebuilt". Thanks Rohan
Hi Rohan, This issue has been disussed on the HiPo Ekschange Forum for years and we still haven't come up with a rebuilder that can do the crimped type of HiPo fuelpumps, 3939 for 65 and 4201 for 66 models. The ones rebuilt by Ford that you can find for sale now and then are most likely done years ago. Sorry. /Texas Swede
Because (likely) these are older stock, back when shops were rebuilding them. Often they either recrimped the lower body and thimble (sometimes pretty ugly) or in some cases a separate band was (not original design) was placed over the point where the lower and upper bodies came together
Yes, I have a rebuilt 65 fuel pump with CARTER on the side instead of CARbureTER and it's marked 3909 instead of 3939 and has a NOS beautifully painted fuel bowl. It has the hipo spring under the arm but doesn't have the spring that goes up into the button. Obviously the rebuilder used another type of internals than the originals were equipped with as the spring is missing. Texas Swede
With all the great gear and access to parts that you have in the US I'm surprised no one hasnt invesnted some tooling. I'll hang onto it and hope!
It's most likely about investment, volume, parts etc. If the latter is the main reason, I don't think we have much hope of getting somebody to start a repair business. Fortunately, I found a NOS in the box 3939 some 6 years ago for my 65 Shelby. Unfortunately it's dated one month too late for my car but you can't get everything, I guess. Paid $500 for it at that time which almost cost me a divorse but when looking back, it was cheap. Had a NOS 3911 in it earlier that I traded for a used 4201. Texas Swede
This is an update on crimped fuel pump rebuilding. I am actively gathering pumps for my fifteenth run. I have done over 750 of these so far. The $220 price is the same but the return shipping in the lower 48 states is now $18. Fred Ballard fredsclassics@hotmail.com 661-251-2362
