    Description/History:

Built the way Carroll wanted to build them.

1987 Shelby CSX #747. It was purchased new directly from Shelby Automobiles by Thrifty Rent-a-car back in 1987.

As you can see the factory 2.2L SOHC Turbo II engine has been replaced with a 2.2L DOHC - Turbo III engine (the Lotus powertrain that Shelby wanted to make a production engine in the 90 Shelby "Super Shadow" CSX that never saw full production). Also note that it wears a pre-production (prototype) valve cover only found on a few press release vehicles!! This valve cover is *extremely* rare and Carroll had planned to use this valve cover on all his 16valve powered Shelbys until Chrysler's top brass pulled the plug in early 1990.

This car was featured in Hemmings Motor News as well as the Chrysler only car show at Moroso Motorsports Park in West Palm Beach, FL on December 10th. It was dyno tested recently for the first time since the car was built. In a poor state of tune - running pig rich (the car pegged the wideband o2 sensor on the dyno at a full 10:1 from 2,600rpms to 5,400 rpms) the car STILL managed to belt out 380whp. This is well over 400hp at the crank. (aka "bhp"). As you can see by the dyno sheets the car desperately needs a new ECU.

With a curb weight of 2,600lbs and just over 380wheel horsepower this car eats stock (supercharged, intercooled) 04 body style Mustang Cobras and sticks with Z06's. I have yet to run it down the 1/4 mile but based on my other Shelbys with similar power my guess is mid to high 11 second runs at around 120-124mph traps. (on 9" slicks)

A car ahead of it's time when you really think about it. great condition and while they have long been overlooked, remember so where the Shelby Mustangs during the 70's!! watch for these cars to start the climb in value!
