What's the lowest price paid for a Shelby car?

I hope to be making one of these threads in 20-30 years about the 07 GT500 I bought 5-7 years after they came out for 19k.

 

67 GT500, 19,000 miles and almost perfect-$2500 in 1974. Want to know about the 69 Boss 429, 5000 miles that I passed on for $2200.00 in 75?

 

You guys got me beat I pd $7500 for a 68 500KR in 1988 drove it home but it needed a resto .The good old days!

 

Free, in 1986 was given a '68 GT350 in parts - but all there. The fellow who worked at the same company as me, was getting divorced and had about a week to get it out of the barn. I did buy an engine (not original), but the car and title was free! It took 2 years to reassemble.

 

I paid $1500 for my 67 GT 350 in 1971. Darn, the guy tried to sell it in the newspaper 2 months earlier for $1200.
And, for $1000 there was another 67 GT 350 (dark green, blown automatic transfor sale in Dolton IL) about 1974, but my lovely wife would not let me take the money out of the bank for it.

 

I think I paid about $2000 for my GLH-S back in 1996.

In 1977 I traded an old beater '55 willy's military jeep and $1000.00 for a '69 GT500. My best "barn find" story though was in 1987 or 88, I heard about a 68 fastback that could be bought cheap, went to look at it and for the paltry sum of $200.00 came home with a 68 1/2 R code fastback. The engine was apart and stored in his barn. I put it together and drove it for years.

Roddster, I'd love to ask you some questions about that green 67, I bought my 67 in Illinois, it is an original auto car with a toploader now, and it was dark green years ago.

 

1965 A.C. Cobra purchased in 1977. $1500.00. Quite a story behind the events leading up to and after the purchase, but it's true.

 

I paid $3,800 for my 67 in Huntington Beach, CA in June of 1977
and shipped it in a container to Sweden. The taxes to bring it into
Sweden was about $3,000.

Bought my CSX for $2,200. 2 Years ago. The Guy had a CSX-T, and a 300Z, as well as my '87, and couldn't afford the insurance for all of them.

$1895 in April '69 for my 1966 GT-350. Still sitting in my garage today.

 

Well, you guys who purchased in the 70's and 80's got me beat. I didn't find mine until 1999, about 6 months before Gone in 60 Seconds came out. Car was a S. California car and owned in the same family since new. 92k miles and hadn't been on the road since 1985. The gent who sold it to me said that his wife wanted him to sell it so they could get a down payment for a house. $15k later and my dream had come true. #01874 GT500 4sp AC. I've got about $55k into her now including the purchase price, but still feel good that I'm probably still in the black. Bob

had renewed interest in the cars so much the prices started climbing.

I bought my KR with 44,000 miles in 82 for $8,000.00 My brother bought his 66 Shelby in 73 for $400.00 no eng, trans, or interior all Shelby body parts were still on the car.

 

Dan, I'm impressed... To have that amount of detailed information on all those cars after all this time, you've got to be the wise old owl type. Wish I had kept some sort of records of my previous 3 Mustangs, but at the time I owned them all I was concerned about was where the parties and girls were at. My first car that my father purchased for me (I still thank him to this day for it being a Mustang Fastback) was a very clean and mechanically sound white 68 fastback with red interior, auto and 289 2v for $500. I traded that even up for my 2nd car, a 67 Black Fastback 289 auto 4V with black interior. Would love to try and find that car.
Went to boot camp and sold the 67 to a friend of a friend of a friend. When I got back from boot camp (1978), bought a 68 Blue fastback 289 2v auto with blue interior for $600. Wrapped that around a telephone pole guidewire back in 1981. Shelbys at that time were $10k or so...I thought only millionaires had that amount of money back then. Bob
