I had my engine rebuilt last year and now have it back in and running. I set the timing to 10 degree advance with
the vacuum lines attached and 20 degrees when unattached. all Original including distributor. Car ran great until i hooked up the smog and now it backfires. Anyone have any thoughts? Is the advance OK?

    Thanks,

it should be set to the factory spec. with the distributor vacuum line plugged. I think the 10 degree BTDC is the number at idle you should be using.

I have my timing set for 10 degree advance and the car does run well but, when I connect the smog pump
it backfires. Any thoughts on the backfire issue?

    Thanks,
