    1965 Shelby Cobra 289 Roadster CSX 2428
    DESCRIPTION:
Billed to Shelby American on May 7, 1964 and shipped to Los Angeles on the Holland America Line’s SS Alblasserdyk the following week, this rare highly-optioned 1965 Shelby Cobra was invoiced to the Foreign Car Center in Birmingham, Alabama on August 5 1964. It was delivered with chromed knock-off wire wheels, dash-mounted rear-view mirror, wind deflectors, chromed bumperettes and a quick-fill fuel cap. Cared for by the same owner since 1984 and listed in the Shelby Registry, this American automotive treasure retains the original (now rebuilt) dual-quad Hi Po 289CI engine, side exhaust and desirable rack and pinion steering.

    Sold for $600,000

One other Shelby-related item was sold at Mecum Monterey--a memorabiia bundle

    Bundled together for one bid:
    -------------------------------------------------------------
    1 autographed 8" x 10 glossy
1 jeans shirt with word COBRA or Shelby on it
1 embellished giclee* print on canvas portraying Shelby in a single seater Maserati around 1956 when he was the "Texas Tornado."
1 out-of-print hardbound book on the history of both the old and new Ford GTs autographed by the co-authors
    --------------------------------------------------

The bundled together items sold altogether for a little over $300 from which a commission was derived. The auction spokesman told this seller that "it would have gone for more if the autograph would have been generic" (meaning because the autograph was inscribed to a particular person, it's worth less than if it was just signed "Carroll Shelby.").

Though it's unwieldly for an auction company to move bundled-together items in an auction, I think we'll see more and more Memorabilia packets be offered in the future , maybe related to other automakers like Enzo Ferrari, or famous engineers like Zora Arkus-Duntov.

*pronounced GHEE-CLAY, this is a print on canvas. "Embellished" means it was further painted on by the artist even after it was printed, which means it is different from the others that are merely printed.
