Gooding & Co., which seems to be getting the plums to auction, is reporting they will have a small block Cobra for sale at their Amelia Island auction March 15, 2011. Here's their description--I am sure some other site has pictures. I couldn't find the CSX number in their press release but I am sure some forum members will have moer on this car. I am curious to see if a small block will break the $500,000 value mark...

    1962 AC Cobra

Originally finished in steel grey over blue, this early Cobra was the 1962 Paris and London Show car and today remains a historically-authentic, well-documented and well-kept example. This AC Cobra bears an interesting SCCA racing pedigree and has been cared for by one owner for the past 35 years. Gooding & Company specialists recommend this car for various touring events, including the Copperstate 1000. Its estimate is $450,000 - $550,000".

Small blacks have been commanding prices well over 500,000 for some time now. The chassis number is 2025 and it was the london auto show car. Its red over black but was originally steele gray over blue. Despite its early chassis number, and due to its show history, it was invoiced to SA later than most 260 cobras, and the car's 260 was replaced with a 289 by Shelby American before being sent out to a dealer.

True, the comp cars demand the higher dollars but I've seen several non-comp cobras sell for less than $500,000 in the past few years. Granted, it has been a couple of soft years as far as pricing goes.
