Automakers set horses free - Ford Shelby Cobra GT500 Mustang
By Sharon Silke Carty, USA TODAY

There really isn't anything practical about this car — unless you're a bank robber.

The limited-production Mustang packs a 450-horsepower V-8 engine and comes with a custom two-tone interior and leather-wrapped dashboard.

The car was developed with help from legendary driver Carroll Shelby, who worked with Ford in the 1960s to soup up that generation of Mustangs. The 1968 Shelby Cobra GT500 had a mere 335 horsepower but sported the same racing stripes across the hood.

Phil Martens, Ford Motor vice president of North American product creation, says the company plans to sell only a few thousand of the cars. "Sometimes, you have to do a car like this because it makes you happy," he says.
