We are talking barrett jackson here, the land of cash aplenty and common sense........well u get the point.
Car should go for over 1 mil.

Last year a coronet 4 door with a hemi, one of only three ever built was hammered for 600,000 on the block at BJ....three months later, it failed to reach 170,000 on ebay.

All true statements...but think this a different market then last year. With the crunch of interest rates and the housing market i dont think people will be as apt to blow huge wads of cash.
But you are probably right....they serve alcohol and there will always be the "keeping up with the Jones" mentality...

I agree......if the market were better right now, the car would be 'worth' two million!
You are truly right about the alcohol statement as well!

New York is one state that doesn't issue a 'title', at least that WAS the case for older cars, not sure now. They only have 'registration', which in effect becomes the title. I wonder how this car got 60 some thousand miles without a 'title' or 'registration'. Texas car? They do titles in Texas? Calif car? I thought Calif ALWAYS did 'titles'?

Have you seen some of the Bidders??????? They look like they just won the Lottory......LOL. Like I have stated before, I think a lot of the Bidders are Lottory Winners, Major Coporate Players that get Million Dollar Bonuses, and people cashing in thier 401K's. I don't think that the Housing Problems will effect the Bidding.
David.

Well, B-J has been known to "Miss-Understand" what they were told. I have seen them call a 1969 Shelby G.T. 500 a Shelby Cobra and they listed another one AS a Shelby G.T. 500. Two Cars, same Year, Make & Model, listed differently. I can't wait to see the action on TV though. I only missed about 4 Hours of the 72 Hours, of last Years Auction on Speed.

Re: Carroll Shelby’s Personal 1969 GT500 Mustang to Be Sold at 2008 Barrett-Jackson

Keep in mind...the man that has bought the majority of the top selling cars in scottsdale is Ron Pratte. Ron has a 300+ car collection located in sunny chandler arizona. Ron Prattes profession? A frame contracter for Pulte homes. He frames almost every house on the west coast. THe housing market might affect normal people but the bidders at barrett for the top cars arent normal by any stretch. I dont think many of them are doing too bad.
Best Regards,
Vern

I am watching SPEED now. The B-J On The Block Show is on and they are doing Last years High-Lites. Ron Pratt just bought the Black Shelby GT #0001 for $600K and received the opertunity to purchase #0002 (a White Car). Does anyone know if he followed through and bought #0002?

02 would have been chump change for Ron....he bought just about everything else at the auction!
Keep in mind, 02 was offered at msrp...not the 600 that the 01P was sold for.
Best Regards,
Vern

That I knew........ just wandering if anyone knows if Mr. Pratt bought #0002. It would be cool to own #0001 & #0002, the first Black Car and the first White Car.

Re: Carroll Shelby’s Personal 1969 GT500 Mustang to Be Sold at 2008 Barrett-Jackson

I would hope that he did.
After the bidding was done at 500...he matched 06s total for the first gt500 by raising his own bid to 600.
38000 is nothing to the guy.
Best Regards,
Vern

Re: Carroll Shelby’s Personal 1969 GT500 Mustang to Be Sold at 2008 Barrett-Jackson

I will be in scottsdale as well.
My opinion is that the big cars will get great money, however, me and many others are thinking that you will see alot of low prices for average cars. Average people are buying the average cars and average people are the ones affected by the housing market even though i dont believe the housing market will be the main factor. I just think people are going to eventually come to their senses.
Nontheless, i just got my auction catalog in the mail and i think it will be fun!
Best Regards,
Vern

Re: Carroll Shelby’s Personal 1969 GT500 Mustang to Be Sold at 2008 Barrett-Jackson

Was Mr Shelby's convertable in real bad shape? I know with the B-J route that they need it to glitter... But, if given the choice I think I would rather had the car in as-is same condition as last used by Mr. Shelby, red engine and all. That will all be erased somewhat by the restoration.

...I didn't know Becker was a broker..

Becker can you shed some light about this car?
