Post Own a Piece of Shelby History

OWN A PIECE of SHELBY HISTORY: 2004 World Champ Pro Modified 67' Shelby Mustang GT500E being auctioned on eBay.

MELVILLE, N.Y., Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The quickest ever accelerating Shelby Mustang GT500E, 2004 NHRA/AMS Pro Modified World Championship car driven by Mike Ashley went up for bid on eBay. The bid started at $395,000.00 and could reach the seven-figure mark before bidding is closed December 17th.

The car is the drag race version of the 67 Shelby Mustang GT500E featured in the movie "Gone in 60 Seconds". Carroll Shelby himself was at the finish line when Ashley pulled the parachutes and stopped the 230 MPH World Championship Shelby to accept the 2004 Championship trophy.

Motorsports legend Shelby, was quick to praise the team for delivering the World Championship, "I am proud of the team and proud to be apart of this very, very exciting day for all of us" as Ashley accepted the trophy on national television. The car has been featured in magazines, television sports networks and Internet worldwide.

"I believe marketing our World Championship car on eBay would provide us with the deepest market penetration and the highest level of exposure for this transaction," stated Ashley.

Ten percent of sale proceeds will be donated to the Carroll Shelby Children's foundation.

Re: Own a Piece of Shelby History

....calling it an Eleanor is a bit of a stretch.

IMO, it is no more a piece of Shelby history than a box of Wheaties with Mia Hamm's picture is a piece of Soccer history.

...it's a nice "last-year's race car".

Re: Own a Piece of Shelby History

This is ridiculous. Call it a "Shelby" (which is a joke), call it "a piece of history", (which it's not), but don't put all that into one sentence!!! My favorite part of the Evil Bay ad is where it's noted that this car "isn't in the Registry". Please.....

It is far from a "scam".

CSE is one of the team's sponsors...there was cross-promotional value to the endorsement.

No one would give a second look if they called it "..a piece of MSD history."

Re: Own a Piece of Shelby History

No bids and reserve not met at the end of the auction. I don't see this car being one that more than a handfull of people remember in 20 years.

At least if it had sold they were donating 10% of the proceeds to the Shelby Childrens' Foundation. That alone is probably enough to get Carroll to endorse it.
