Post World Famous Volo Auto Museum Opens Vault to the Public

VOLO, Ill., Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The scooter that Peter Parker used to deliver pizzas in "Spiderman 2," a prototype Camaro police car, an actual Indy racecar, and other rare pieces usually reserved strictly for museums could find their way under your tree this holiday season.

With nearly 300 collector cars and over twenty famous cars on display, the Volo Auto Museum's five indoor showrooms are nearing capacity. To make room for new exhibits, the 44-year-old museum has decided to open its vault to the public for the first time.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to own a piece of history," said Museum Sales Director Brian Grams. "We are thrilled to be able to offer this opportunity to the public."

The vault contains about 100 items, including the 1976 Pacer featured in "Wayne's World," the Mazda RX-7 and Mitsubishi Eclipse that starred in "The Fast and The Furious," and "The Gadget Mobile" from the movie "Inspector Gadget."

In addition to famous vehicles, the vault contains antique kiddie rides from the 1950s, authentic movie and television props, and other museum artifacts.

Prices range from $5,000 for the robot costume featured in RoboCop 2 to $1.2 million for a prototype Shelby GT-500 convertible owned by famous racecar driver turned engineer Carroll Shelby.

The museum will offer a special showing to the press on Dec. 16, 2004. Invited guests will receive a viewing on Dec. 17. Finally, the vault will be opened to the general public starting Dec. 18. The remaining contents of the vault will be available for purchase online at http://www.volocars.com/ .

The Volo Auto Museum is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Generaladmission is $7. Special rates are available for children, seniors, veterans and active military. Visit http://www.volocars.com/ or call (815) 385-3644 for details.

The Volo Auto Museum is located at 27582 W. Volo Village Road near Routes 120 and 12 in Volo, IL. The museum reserves the right to postpone or cancel events.
