[Shelbymustang] '66 Sales Observations

TheCarSource.com Shelby Mustang List
------------------------------------
Yep, almost an old wound, but the list has been quiet.

There's been a fully restored Hertz car listed for sale on eBay a couple of times without meeting reserve and only this time finally breaking the $80k mark. The rub with the car is (I suspect) the tack taken. Changed from Black to blue, inside and out, A/C added, auto changed to 4 speed, etc.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...0835922&rd=1,1

Yeah, we're entering a soft time in the market, but what is it about this car that a "relatively complete" bare-metal shell (originally a red car IIRC) encased in surface rust sold around the same time it was initially listed sold for $55k, and this drivable car has such a yoke about it's neck?

Is this a marginal car, Bob Gaines?

Thoughts from the list invited.

All-
>From my arms length perspective, the car is O.K. for someone who just wants a local show winner/driver or someone who wants to say they have a Shelby. I'm always amazed at folks who take the time, trouble and money to restore a car like this, then do such a mediocre job on the details and wonder why it doesn't sell for mega-bucks. But, then there are those who will buy an "Eleanor" or some such concoction for a small fortune and wonder why they can't make money when they decide to sell it.

A few quick observations besides the color and tranny change: The exhaust system is for noise, not for authenticity, the valve covers are wrong, as is the oil filler cap. The air conditioning pokes holes in the firewall (why not just roll down the windows?). Also, I don't believe that's a 9" rear end. (Where's the filler?)
I'm sure there's more but you get my point.
Regards, Stan

It has to be the car's history/condition, etc...

I've seen some sketchy rust bucket '66s sell for $75k and some '67s go for more recently.

Maybe the market is slowing for driveable cars, but not rusty ones? Should I strip mine and leave it out in the rain?

I too have a sense of a slow down on the marginal cars but remember it
always slows down a little this time of year and picks up after Jan .I saw
a 66 hertz that I know was a good car not meet reserve and bid to 90 and
know for a fact that another car that was on ebay shortly after that was a
admitted rebody change hands for 90 before the auction was over .The bidder
made a outside offer to stop the auction because he was afraid someone else
was going to get it. The seller even had the guy sign a document stating he
knew he was buying a rebody. Sometimes it doesn't make sense. Bob G.

that is a made up rear end. the center section is the wrong one and has had
the tubes from an 8" welded to it
if you are going to make a rear for the car, why not at least start with the
right stuff?

Bob-
My point exactly! Who knows what other evils lurk under the skin of that car? That's probably why they were lucky to get it up to $80K. Caveat Emptor!

[Shelbymustang] Breast Cancer License Plate Frames

TheCarSource.com Shelby Mustang List
------------------------------------

Dan had a good idea and suggested I offer these directly to those on the list as E-Bay was quite the experience. I'll keep any other correspondence on this off the main list.

My goal is to raise money for Breast Cancer research as a family member is fighting this. I had a bunch of these frames made and am trying to make them available. Maybe some of you might be interested in one for your wife, daughter, mother, friend ... They look good on any car and might make a good stocking stuffer. I have them on my daily driver and my non-daily
driver (see attached pictures).

If any of you would like to have one, please feel free to let me know and I'd be happy to send you one. If you would like more than one please let me know and I'll work out something with you.

The price breakdown is as follows:

License Frame: $1.40
Envelope: $1.15
Postage: $1.95
Donation: $3.00 (100% of what is left goes directly to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation)

Total: $7.50 Price (arrives in a bubble mailer, wrapped in pink paper, with breast cancer information and the frame)

It is very tastefully done. If you are not completely satisfied, let me know and I will send you a refund.

Thanks for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Jeff

Why not just take a picture and offer them to the guys on the list and the heck with e-bay. I don't use e-bay either
