RE: SOLD - SOLD - SOLD!!!! - 1968 SHELBY GT500 E CONVERTIBLE FOR $550800
I just rec'd one of my many Mustang monthly magazines and this car was the
feature story/cover car...nice write up. personally, the hood is plumber butt ugly. at any rate, I just sent the mag off to a friend in Iraq so cant go check which mag it was. ( recall it was Mustangs and Fords or Mustang Monthly) . the hype of the charity ( MD or ?) took over on this one, and the beauty of a phone bid makes ya always wonder 'who is that masked man' as they used to say . It just seemed this was too orchestrated and in the end, with all the stories that will be written about this car and the price paid, someone is getting MUCH MORE THAN $500k in free publicitiy. There can only be one "serial #1" and that was the hype of the car and the TV announcer who read it off a data plate of some kind. I understand that they wrote a couple of 'retail orders' for dupes of this car at their BJ - Palm Beach display , and that was before it went across the block at a half mil plus ! yep, they could have bid against themselves, bought their own car, paid the 8+8 commission and still be BIG BUCKS ahead vs all the press and hype this sale will give them in free publicity...yep...now, let me have a real deal please vs one of these. IF they ever have any value in the future, i will be long gone and so will not benefit from it. however, i am here today and the value of the real ones from the 60s have more appeal to me - and cheaper too ! Thought this was great they were doing a GT500E conv. I always thought they (GT500E's) were overpriced, but they are selling or have sold everyone they build. But, $550800. UNREAL Could this just be cheap national or even worldwide television advertising? I missed auction. How many miniutes of bidding time. Are operators at Unique taking orders now. Maybe having a half price B-J Auction Special. Russ |
