Description/History:

This car, Shelby VIN number 67411F--0100-ENG., is the the very first production G.T. 500 manufactured by Shelby American. It was a factory engineering and test car and was used as a public relations car in 1967. It is, most likely, the early red G.T. 500 that was used in Shelby American sales brochures, photographs, and magazine advertisements. It is the car that was road tested in the February 1967 issues of Car and Driver and Road and Track, and the March 1967 issue of Sports Car Graphic. Late in the 1967 model year it quite possibly was used as a mock-up car for the 1968 Shelbys.

I have owned the car since December of 1979. I was 16 years old when I, with the help of my wonderful parents, purchased the car. My friends and I restored/modified the car from 1990-1992. It is not a 100% all original, numbers matching, show car. But, I do believe that it cleans up and shows pretty nicely. My wife and I drive it frequently during the summer months in Colorado. The car is very fast and handles great for a big block car. It gets admiring looks from all who see it and it always draws a crowd when it's parked. I am really lucky and very proud to own this piece of Shelby American history.

The car will be featured in an upcoming article in Mustang and Fords and/or Mustang Monthly later this year or early next year.

Eric

Hi,
This is a very significant piece of history you got.
Have a question for you. Does your car's Ford
serial number have an S (390) as the engine code instead
of the Q (428) on the production cars?
Texas Swede
P.S. I used to live in Evergreen Colorado. A beautiful place
and a lot of Shelbys and Mustangs plus Walt Hane of course.

Texas Swede,

Thanks for the compliments. My car has the "S" engine code for the 390, but who knows what was under the hood when the car finally left Shelby American. That is one of the things that is unknown about this car.

Hello,

Thanks for the compliments on the car. Do not know anything about the "Lady in Red", but I wonder who she was and if she is still with us. The item in the fuel line is a fuel pressure regulator. It will be removed from the car soon as I am going to be removing the electric fuel pump and replacing it with an engine mounted mechanical pump.

Thanks,
Eric

Hello,

I am slowly working to change some of the non-stock/original things back to original or at least original appearing. The electric fuel pump has worked fine for the past 10 or so years. But it's time to put a mechanical pump back on the car.

Thanks,
Eric
