Automobile Quarterly 2004 Shelby Issue

This is just an FYI for all of you Shelby enthusiasts out there. There is a really nice issue of Automobile Quarterly which has several chapters devoted to the Shelby Mustang including the Hertz rental version. It is Volume 44, Number 4 from the fourth quarter of 2004. That's a lot of 4's! It is a fantastic issue with loads of info and some excellent pictures that I have never seen before. The best thing about this issue is that it is still available NEW. I located my copy through eCampus.com and the cost was around $20. Shipping cost was very reasonable and delivery fast. The ISBN number is 9781596139756. This is a very worthwhile book to have in your collection.

Re: Automobile Quarterly 2004 Shelby Issue

Does the article focus on a certain year or cover the whole era?

There are 5 sections pertaining to the Shelby:

1) Carroll Shelby Biography
2) The Eleanor Project
3) Hertz Rent-A-Racers
4) Shelby Mustang GT500
5) Bill Neale Art Gallery with some Cobra/Shelby art work

Is this the one with the lead article by Gary Witzenberg?

Re: Automobile Quarterly 2004 Shelby Issue

Though I liked Gary's writing (he is one of the few actual engineers writing about cars; recently retired from GM after decades there) I didn't read anything in all his articles that I hadn't read before, which makes me think it was "approved" by the PR mavens, a process which "blands out" work in my opinion.

I thought far more revealing the 6000 word long interview of Shelby that was in Vanity Fair (yes, a fashion magazine!). That one brought up lots of stories for CS to refute or clarify. I didn't recognize the writer's name so he must come from some other field of journalism. One guy who makes Cobra replicas told me that the guy called him four times, "digging for dirt". I didn't really find dirt in the article but it was real fun to read.

I can't remember what issue of VF it was but it had to be within the last two years for sure. Shelby is pictured next to an '07 Shelby Mustang.
