Re: Original 289 CSX 2317 For Sale on Ebay
I only have a few issues of that magazine. There were a lot of great interviews
in the smaller size editions that preceded the color cover issues. Getting back to Tweedy, since I don't have this issue, but he was the official factory painter (I thought that was Dennis Ercek but anyway...) is he backing up the contention that CSX2317 had a special paint job from the factory? I knew about the 427 sent to George Barris and I saw a metalflake blue 289 on the 101 freeway in 1965 but I didn't know that many were ordered with non-stock paint. I know the later model year of a car you are talking about the more unlikely it is you can get them to bend the rules on how the car is equipped, for instance in the new Ford GT I know of only one that was painted different at the factory, a color called Sonic Blue. That car was auctioned off at a charity gig and fetched quite a bit more than normal for charity. |

Interesting selling strategy...calling potential buyers little girls/lifeless nerds!
After reading the thread, it just sounds like the seller doesnt have a full understanding of what hes got. Best Regards, Vern

Re: Original 289 CSX 2317 For Sale on Ebay
All, I have a very serious question. I know a gentlemen who has an original 65 Cobra 427 car and he's interested in selling it to me. He is not a friend just someone I have done business with before. Now...the car doesn't have an engine and it's never been wrecked but supposedly all of the other parts are with the car. Including transmission, rear end, suspension, coolers, gear stick, gages etc. Unfortunately, I don't have a clue what parts might be missing or anything else about a real Cobra. We haven't talked price either. I currently own a 67 GT500 and a 67 S code car and have a good feel for the value of these cars but I don't even know where to start with this Cobra. I want the car but I don't want to start negotiating until I know what a realistic price might be. If any of you can help I would appreciate it.

Re: Original 289 CSX 2317 For Sale on Ebay
On that 427 minus engine, I would go to a Cobra restoration shop and
pay them like $50.hr for a 3 hour lesson on how to identify a Cobra for real. For instance the serial number may be in more than one place (on one of my Ferraris the SN was hand written inside the door panels). You don't have to tell them you are thinking of buying a particular one, you just want to know what makes a real one and what makes a fake one. I would also find a friend with the REgistry and check the SN. Also consult with the Registry expert at the AC Owners Club of England, on the internet. One problem you will have is "claim jumpers" if you spread it too far and wide that CSX3000 such and such is for sale so you have to do your detective work, have the money ready and then make your offer when you are confident it is real. I would not buy it unless a chain of ownership can be established as I met a guy who made five fake 427 Cobras out of Autokraft Mk. IVs and it could be one of those. |
