I wonder if Santa could fit that in his sack for me.

Very sweet, big $$$.

Oh to be rich instead of handsome

Any ideas as to price.
Gotta be a substantial amount over 1000000

Re: CSX 2011 at RM!!!

That car crossed the blocks at Monterey in 2005 and brought a final bid of $770k...I don't think it sold, just had that as a high bid.

I did a photo shoot of that car at SAAC-31 (VIR) and it was in marvelous-unrestored condition.

My understanding is that it subsequently sold, went to the West Coast and suffered a "gentle" restoration. I think it has run at the recent Coronado FOS.
I have not seen it since it refurb.

The blurb in the current listing says, "..and is fully restored."

If so...that's a pity.

Racing at Nassau gives it a special history.

Well said.
I think there was a thread that contained pics of the car a Colorado.

Any car untouched like that car should be left untouch under any circumstances.
It is really a shame.
Nonetheless, it is a very cool cobra with globs of history!

Re: CSX 2011 at RM!!!

I was at the same SAAC convention A-Snake was attending (that is where I met him and lusted after his red car) when he took the front straight picture he posted. CSX2011 looked just like it had left a race, dirt, oil leaks, and all. I took a few engine bay detail images that day. I thought it was the best Cobra at the event and voted that way. There was an owner innitiated vote at the event, restore or leave as is. If I remember correctly leave alone won the vote. Its is a shame it has been prettied up.

I believe the vote was overwelming in favor of leaving the car alone.

Hey, look at that license plate to the left of Carroll...does it read A-Snake?

Re: CSX 2011 at RM!!!

We speak about this like it was a couple years ago. Its been 20 years since I took that picture.
Actually, I want to thank rr64 for making me understand when you should or should not sell a car of your dreams.

It was during SAAC 12 that someone wanted to buy my car for what I thought at the time was a high price. I asked rr64 if I could replace the car for less. He said no.

If there's nothing else you wish to own and you can't replace what you have for the same amount of money, why would you sell it?

Re: CSX 2011 at RM!!!

CSX2011 recieved a mechanical clean up and had the gas cap replaced and recessed in to the body the way it was done originally. The car did not race at the Coronado event, it was on display. It was also on display at the Monterey Historics in August, 2007. Mr. Chuck Wagner, the current owner of the car since Feb. 2007, must have also had some of the paint work redone, that would account for the gas cap mod and the respray over the previous red scallops. I'm guessing that the steering wheel was also replaced with an AC wheel since the old wheel had a secondary support plate that was bolted on.

Re: CSX 2011 at RM!!!

In 2006 I had a once in a lifetime oppertunity to view this car. I ever heard her run, what chills I got witnessing a peice of History such as it. I will never forget it.

The "orginal" owner used to have a website up looks like he has taken that down. As is my understanding, other than fixing a hairline "fracture" on one of the rims, the car was just the same as it left Nassau. The gosh darn thing even left a oil puddle in our shop!

I really do agree the work done to it is a total shame and disgrace! I see it is going to be listed at Scottsdale 08?

http://www.hagerty.com/Scottsdale/RM_ctw.aspx#

Any information? Id be curious to see how many times it changed hands since Ron sold it. Too bad someone who truley would have valued the car didnt get it the first time, as it does seem the prices I see now have been substanially higher than what Ron was hoping to get for it.

Re: CSX 2011 at RM!!!

Ron West was not the original owner, he was the third owner of CSX2011. The first owner was J. Everly who purchased 2011 on 10/23/1962 and had Shelby American prep the car for the Nassau event with Competition accessories such as sway bars, roll bar, long range tank, etc.

CSX2011 was raced by Everly at the 1962 Nassau event and sat out for a whole year and then raced again at the 1963 Nassau event. Everly continued to race 2011 during the 1964 race season but DNF'ed in every race. Everly crashed 2011 at the 1964 Watkins Glen event on the first lap driving through a bunch of fencing, possibly due to a mechanical failure. Everly flipped 2011 at the 1964 Elkhart Lake event and so ended the ownership by Everly. Everly gave 2011 to the second owner John Archer in Dallas, Texas.

John Archer removed the engine from 2011 and used it in his Gemini-Ford and replaced the engine in 2011 with an engine from a GT350.

Ron West purchased 2011 in 1965 and continued to race 2011 in SCCA Ap and Bp events through 1967. Ron West retired the car from racing at the end of the 1967 season. 2011 was placed in storage in 1971. Ron pulled 2011 out of storage in the middle 1980's and attended a few SAAC events. 2011 was shown in as raced condition as of the last race season in 1967.

Sometime around early 2005, 2011 was sent off to have some aluminum work done on the rear fenders, nose and also a quick repaint in the Daytona 1964 color scheme. 2011 was put up for sale in the Russo and Steele August 2005 Auction. 2011 was a No Sale at the 700-800 mark.

Between 2006-2007 Ron West's son set up the website that "tadolf" mentioned in the above post. 2011 was sold to Chuck Wagner for an undisclosed amount in Feb. 2007. Chuck Wagner and under the supervision of Ron West's son did more of a sympathetic resto again on 2011, i.e. some mechanical work, engine bay clean up, etc.

Chuck Wagner displayed 2011 at the 2007 Monterey Historics and also at the 2007 San Diego race at Coronado.

January 2008, RM Auctions, CSX2011 sold to new owner for 1.7 Million.
