CSX2530, what's the story on the stolen car?

Cruising the net I came across the reference to
CSX2530 which was apparently a stolen Cobra
that was recovered.

The story was in Autoweek May 25, 1992 or Jan. 26, 2004

I don't have either issue.

Is this the same story about a guy who hid the car away for many years knowing it was stolen and then he brings it to a car show and someone writes down the serial number and soon he is arrested for having a stolen car? Wasn't the guy some sort of Cobra club official?
Love to know, because my memory blanked past knowledge of this out.

Here the May 25th 1992 issue is for sale for $2.00, they have only 3 copies left. This issue also annouces Shelby's intention to build more 427 cobras.

Bitzman, did you trip and fall at a Shelby convention and have blamed Carroll Shelby and his fans ever since?? it appears that you only ever pop up here with some inaccurate negative drivel on occasion. how about shocking us with some Positive info for once??

Am I missing something. The story I have heard is that the car was stolen in 71 and turned up years later. I don't see anything negative about that. It makes for a car with a great story.

Here is the published highlights of the May 25th 1992 issue of AutoWeek
TEST: Subaru SVX
FEAT: 65 Shelby Cobra 427 SC Continuation Series, stolen Cobra CSX2530 saga, TVR cars, Vauxhall Calibra Turbo 4x4, 64-67 Sunbeam Tiger

Re: CSX2530, what's the story on the stolen car?

Sorry Dalton David if my line of inquiry seems negative.I am a historian and constantly filing away bits of new info to compare it against something I heard 30-40 years ago. For intance, I heard CS crashed at Riverside in '57 andhad 72 stitches in his face. Yet I found a picture of him climbing out of the car, but you could only see his back. Now, through a few weeks of digging I found a guy who shot the picture 40 years ago who could verify it was a worse accident that it looked like from his camera's view. That may seem negative to question everything but there's not too many guys that can roll a car over themselves and walk away from it so I was curious about that photo (seen on Tam's Old Race Car site).

Same thing with this Cobra, I find references to the stolen Cobra , long hidden and recovered. I want to know if it was the one where the guy took it to a car show, someone saw the number and remembered that was stolen. I don't have a house big enough to store all the Autoweeks so was hoping someone had that article and remembered it.

I am also following a new trail that was in Autoweek on some fake GT40, after seeing a letter by Harley Cluxton saying buyers should do due diligence but am now aware of any recent controversy about fake GT40s. Cluxton owned 1075, the GT40 that won LeMans not once but twice.

Thanks for your criticism, I will try to be more diplomatic in my inquiries.

Thumbs up Re: CSX2530, what's the story on the stolen car?

Bitz, my "Criticism" was only intended as "Constructive"!! The one thing about these Internet Forums is that some times people are emotionless in their approach. almost robotic while others can be all too mellow dramatic. and sometimes it appears that people have ulterior motives for their line of questioning. I am a mere mortal such as your self who digs the Shelby cars and the history associated with them. whatever you have to bring to the Forum is always welcome and appreciated. what I do pick up from your line of questions and comments is that you can probably contribute a great deal and also pose a few questions along the way while sharing your extensive knowledge and perhaps add some pictures to the Gallery!! How about it??- Dave
