Reproduction 3259
OK this is probably on the site already, but I couldn't find it. I am finishing up my 289 engine (1965 Shelby clone) and need some advice. Have been looking for a 715 carb, but have stumbled across info that suggests that these are not very good carbs. I would probably go the Tony Branda route as I don't plan on showing car other than maybe at a cruise in. Any feedback or alternative carb suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

It all depends on your engine. The 715 Holley ran beautifully on my 66 gt350 before I put in the Paxton and a 650 dp Holley. The 715 is too much carb for a stock non-hipo 289/302 with a mild performance cam. 580 or 600 runs better without bogging. Be sure with all that extra fuel and air that you have Tri-Y or similar headers. Be sure to adjust the size of the primary and secondary jets to the cam as well. The great thing about the 715 is evident on hard cornering because of the center pivots. And be sure you use a larger than stock fuel line.

Re: Reproduction 3259
Big question is what engine is being used, stock or hi-po 289 and what cam, etc. Stock 289 will flood and stall on acceleration with oversized carb. But if the 289 is built up with cam and rockers, intake, headers, etc. the 715 should run faily well with adjusted tuning. If so, go for it and enjoy the ride and sound!
