Re: 66 GT350 vs. 89 Mustang - Dream Car Garage
Thanks for the response.
I have e-mailed Legendary Motorcar a couple times last week and have not recieved a any reply at all. I have found out from Ron's Rims ronsrims1@msn.com that the wheels are actually custom order from American Racing and they are 17"x7" modified Torq Thrust II's with a painted center and polished outer lip. They are called CL205's. I think I'll need a 4" back space and maybe 225/45-17 tires. If anyone else has any input on back space or tire size it would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Re: 66 GT350 vs. 89 Mustang - Dream Car Garage
I bought some 16" CL205's for my car last year. I did repaint the centers a darker gray than what they came with, for a more vintage look. I went with 16 x 7 (4.0" backspace) and 16 x 8 (5.0" backspace). I'm hoping to run 225/50's up front, and 245/50 or 245/45's in back. I haven't ordered the tires yet, and I know it's going to be tight in the back, but that's my plan.

Re: 66 GT350 vs. 89 Mustang - Dream Car Garage
Some of the wheel and tire guys have been telling me to go with a 4.25, 4.5 or even 4.75 in. backspace on my '66. I currently have a 4 in. back space on a 14x6.58 in. rim up front and the rim is real close to the upper control arm.
Anyone have any experience with back space on a '66? I'm interested in front and rear wheel backspace. |

Re: 66 GT350 vs. 89 Mustang - Dream Car Garage
By the way here is a photo of the car that I'm trying to figure out what size wheels and tires are on it including backspace.
Also, Legendary got back to me and they didn't have any record but they thought they were 17 in., but no other info. |

ccarccrazy - any chance you can send me a better resolution copy of that picture? I just joined the forum recently and just saw this post. The car car in the picture is mine (6S1575) and I'd love to get a copy of the picture if you still have it.

Re: 66 GT350 vs. 89 Mustang - Dream Car Garage
Gary, thanks very much for the pictures. In answer to your question about the rims, I called Peter Klutt today and asked if he remembered the specs of the rims including the backspace of the wheels. He said the rims were 17" for sure and that he bought them from National Parts. He did not recall the backspace info but suggested National should be able to confirm that information for your car. Re: 66 GT350 vs. 89 Mustang - Dream Car Garage
They brought those cars to Road Atlanta to do the road course and drag racing stuff and kept them at our shop across the street from Road Atlanta, used to be a Superformance dealer. We installed the racing harnesses in the late model car, which once we got the seats out and ripped up some carpet to mount the belts, everything was rusted solid. Took hours to drill and grind to get everything working, and the car nuked itself itself not too long into their stay. Tom commented that it may have been the biggest piece of sh*t he'd ever bought. Tom often visited us and was a great guy, always nice to kids, signing stuff, etc. I have a photo in my gallery of him stuffed into one of our SPF GT40's, I think. The car Peter used was pretty nice, however I don't have any of my photos I'd taken due to a computer crash.
