Whiskey and Shelby

Does anyone think there are too many Shelbys being built for the wrong reasons?

If you poor yourself a nice glass of whiskey and keep adding water, pretty soon is all you have is water....

There seems to be a new model, a recreation, a tribute car on every corner? Is this really helping the marque?

Re: Whiskey and Shelby

I think Amy B. said there has been 8 new models since she came on board. I lost track with the first two or three...
In one way I am inclned to agree but one only has to look at recent musclecar values to see how , even in a big run, there can be some standouts. Say for instance in Hemi Cudas, there were only two manual shift convertibles which makes them in some eyes million dollar cars. And in '69 Corvettes there were only two ZL-1s, both million dollar cars today.

On the other hand due to modern smog laws, automakers are forced to make all the cars as alike as a peas in a pod so the oddball variations that make a given car worth so much 30 plus years later might not happen anymore like they used to when a VIP buyer had "an in at the factory."

That being said, look at the Ford GT '05-'-6. Even though they were all supposed to be built to factory spec, there was one built with an odd paint job, called Sonic Blue, that was auctioned off for charity. So there you are, a car made only two years ago that varied from all the others. So it's still possible to "bend the rules" one way or t'other.

In the Sixties, Shelby's buddies prevailed upon him to "make mine special" and those cars that had this or that minor variation are the cars worth big bucks today but history will have to decide whether , when we're talking 2007, that one "made special" after delivery/purchase is the same as one made special in the factory at the time it was being built.

Of course it would help to document the buyer of the car in deep conference with Shel over this or that variation to be able to prove decades later that the mods over stock were "factory approved" changes.

Re: Whiskey and Shelby

To keep it simple, I will answer the original question.
Yes, too many, and yes, this whiskey tastes like it has too much "Branch Water"

my 2 cents.

Re: Whiskey and Shelby

I agree with you Peter. I have owned both the new 07 GT500 that was suppose to be a limited number, and also a 1970 GT 350. I sold the new one because there is too many models being made of the new mustang for my taste. Saleen, Roush, Shelby GT, Hertz, Super snake, 40th, BJ. I also sold the 70 so that I could find a 68 Shelby GT350 convertible where there were only 404 made.
These new mass produced cars will not be a collectors car IMO.

Re: Whiskey and Shelby

Pete .. look at it this way. With all the one up stuff that is going on with all the models the owners will quickly tire of not having the "best, quickest...." and many will become as cheap as the old Shelbys were by the early 70's making them we can all pick up to beat. Just like the original ones.

As one that will not be buying a new one... I look forward to 2010-12 when I can buy one cheap and have some fun. Expect a ton of these things at old track events by then

Back to the future ... again

Is someone buying drinks? Because i like tequila.

All kidding aside...they have saturated the market or diluted it depending on your view.
Cars are a lot like music...some songs should never be redone or covered...some cars should not redone or covered.

Re: Whiskey and Shelby

Although i agree with everything that has been posted....you must give the people over at shelbyautos some slack.
I think it would be hard to balance the idea of not building many with the fact that business is business and as long as they can sell em they will sell em.
Diluted Whiskey......or just good business?

You are absolutely right. Besides I thought that the ice cubes are supposed to be the only water mixed with the whiskey.

Like i said...i agree what you and the rest of the forum members have to say. However, there seems to be an abundance of problems yet not many answers coming from this thread.
Dont we seem to have this conversation in one form or another about every month?
Lately.......Ive just been trying to look at the positive instead of constantly obsessing over the obvious negatives that are present right now.

The whole situation is a mess and a text book example of how to dilute a brand.

I think you meant "Blue COLLAR Comedy Tour"...and what i like about tequila is you rarely pour it over ice...so unlike whiskey it never gets watered down.

Re: Whiskey and Shelby

Pete,
I feel this is not only true with Shelby but with Ford as well. Like we need to make another bullitt car. One was enough. GM and Dodge will follow suit with the Camaro and Challenger. Prices are way out of control with no end it site. At least the commercials will be cool to watch. I'll stick with the old stuff.

Well some of those were dealer promo's not Ford but yes to your main point Ford often (still does) do spring specials to lift sagging sales but generally only one per model.

Think we all agree its impossible to keep up with the 6-8 (can't keep track) we are up to with the Shelbys then add the Ford models, Saleen models...

Like I said... going to be very affordable soon....especially since quite a few owners also purchased or refinanced homes also.

Re: Whiskey and Shelby

If you want a new Shelby you need to tighten up those purse strings, sit back and wait!!!!! You will get a new one less than sticker in the next 12 to 18 months. Let's face it the '08 cars look just like the '07 cars and the '09 cars will probably look the same as the '08 cars. You see where I am going with this right? This is why the new Shelby's can never, ever be what the old ones were. Shelby has to build around what Ford makes and since they do not change what they make you will only get a color change !!!!!! The body's of the original cars at least changed and every year is very different even if the body was used for two years. They also have no competition in there market, YET. The Camaro and Challenger will change that and when they are the new hottest car to have, the Shelby will not look so appealing!!!!! Ford is tying to make as many models now before they loose market share to the other two hot cars on the horizon. I know some people out there will say they are brand loyal, I say BULL!!!!! If you are in the market for a new muscle car and have the chance to order a new HEMI Challenger conv. with a shaker hood in plum crazy for less than a Shelby 500 that looks the same as the past two years I think you go Dodge. Same thing if it is a new Yenko Camaro. So back to what I started saying, hold your money. If you are that Die hard Ford guy that wants his Shelby and wants it cheaper your day is right around the corner!!!!!!!

Dominic
