Question could this be a shelby mustang?

i just bought what appears to be a 65 or 66 mustang, it is a coupe. the thing is it has taillamps like the old cougers had, long and narrow.. and also has air scoopes on the front of the quarter panels that funnel air to the rear brakes. it also has a rear deck spoiler. the man i bought it from says he found gt350 stripes under the paint when he started sanding it down, then he just quit with the car. i dont know very much about the mustangs and need some help with this please. i do have a few pictures but havent gotten the vin# as of yet . if anyone has any ideas please let me know. the car is in rough shape but can be restored , just need to know if it is worth rebuilding. thanks

Post some pictures and we can start from there. Look for serial numbers, number plates etc. You can attach photos to your post or post them in the photo gallery. I'm sure others will post requesting more specific info. so just tell us anything else you know about the car and someone should be able to help you out. The more specific you can be, the better.

Can't be a Shelby if it's a coupe.

From your description it sounds like a california special or high country special, but it would have to be a 68.

I've seen a few mustangs in my time that owners have added the tbird lights or cougar lights onto, I'd suspect that's what you have.

Re: could this be a shelby mustang?

"spoilers" weren't used until 1967. Don't fret, these cars are 40 years old now, and no doubt some folks customized theirs.
Shelby did build some coupe Trans/Am cars in 66, but, these did not get any kind of Shelby Vin #. All those Trans/Am cars would have a K for the engine vin, and all were built at the San jose Ford assembly plant.
