Question about a VIN number

Hi everybody,

My name is Michael Roestenburg, i live in a small town near Eindhoven, The Netherlands, Europe. Mayby you know Eindhoven, a famous American Soccerplayer plays at PSV Eindhoven, Damarcus Beasley.

I visited this site a couple of times to check it and i love it. There are some really great stories. I really love the Ford Mustang, i think it is one of the most beautiful cars ever made.

But as my Title says i have a question about a VIN number. I read on the forum there are here some people who are a member of SAAC, and SAAC knows everything about the Mustangs. Well i have my eye on a Mustang, the owner says it is a Shelby Mustang but i am not sure. I have got the VIN number of the car.

Now my question is can somebody please tell me if this VIN number really belongs to a Shelby. The number is VIN Number: 5r09c142731

I hope to here from somebody of the forum very soon. I really hope this is a real Shelby then the car will be mine!

Kind regards,

Michael Roestenburg

Re: Question about a VIN number

DutchMustangFan
the vin you listed is from a 1965 Mustang Fastback with a 289cid 2 barrel carb. It's not a Shelby. The C in the vin is the give away, it should be K indicating 289 HiPo with a 4 barrel carb. Hey there is nothing wrong with a C code car. If the car is in good shape and all togather go for it. In your neck of the woods they're probably hard to come by. Good luck Ranger Jerry

Re: Question about a VIN number

If that is the correct VIN for the car, it's definately NOT a Shelby. Here is a link to the SAAC people who can verify a VIN number. The best they will do is say yes or no if you submit a VIN number to them.

Good Luck and keep looking.

Re: Question about a VIN number

Thanks for the two replies.

To bad it isn't a real shelby, but i think there is a big engine in the car. The seller claims it to be a engine with 306 BHP. The car has got a shelby dashboard, i compared it with picture on the forum and internet. Mayby they made it a shelby. It also has a Shelby front, but from a '66 Shelby not a '65 Shelby.

A well i will tell the seller it isn't a real Shelby. So now i can lower the price a lot If the seller lowers the price i think i really have a great car for a great price.

Kind regards,

Michael

Re: Question about a VIN number

The 306 BHP was the rating for the Shelby GT350. I guess the seller is assuming that building a look-a-like clone also clones horsepower.

Be careful Michael, the seller has not been honest in his description. You have caught him misrepresenting it as a Shelby. He will also likely be misleading in describing the condition of the car. If it were me, I would walk away from this one.

Re: Question about a VIN number

Michael,
Just because it is not a "real" Shelby does not mean it isn't a real good car.
The pedegree that establishes it as "real" adds 100,000 dollars to the price tag. If you plan to drive the car and not simply worship your investment 100,000 dollars can go a long way to restore your damaged psych. Look the car over very closely. 40 years of wear and tear... and oxidation can make any Shelby or plain mustang a real mess. Now that you have established that it is not a real one..... the only issue is condition. Take some pictures of it and post them here. Everone here would love to pick it apart and tell you what you have..
good luck,
jimbo
