Poll: Do you drive your Shelby and....

if you do how much do you drive it each week? If you do not drive it, what do you do with yours? Just interested in what everybody else does. I drive my '68 G.T.350 convertible about 10-20 miles per week. Other than that I just love on her a lot.

Re: Poll: Do you drive your Shelby and....

My CSX has a lot of miles on it, so I figure a few more won't hurt. During the summer months, if the weather is nice, I drive it to work. About a 100 mile round trip commute.

So if the weather holds out, I put on 500 miles a week on my Shelby.

Re: Poll: Do you drive your Shelby and....

Don't drive them nearly as much as I used to. When I had one out for the season I would put around 1000 miles or more. Now, the battery goes in once a month and they get run up to temp., go threw the gears, pump the brakes and shut it down for another month. Just don't have the time to drive them as much as I would like.

Re: Poll: Do you drive your Shelby and....

When I bought mine in 1987 I drove it everyday to work and every where during the summer, rain or shine. Had a 79 capri to drive in the winter. In 89 I bought another car and since just drive it on weekends and to work once in a while on nice days. I was 19 years old when I bought it so I did what I had to. My friends thought I was stupid for paying $8000.00 dollars for a 20 year old car when they where buying new Mustang GT's for around $12,000. No one things I am stupid now.

You were (are) one smart young man. I am ....

impressed that a 19-year old kid would have such long-term perspectives. Congratulations. One day you will be able to trade your car for a house !!!

Re: Poll: Do you drive your Shelby and....

Thanks but I was lucky and had been reading Mustang Monthly since I was 15 and knew I wanted a 65GT350R. Even then they were out of my price range. So I settled on the 67. I worked two full time jobs for 3 years to pay for it. $8000 may not seem like much now but it was a huge amount of money to me in 87.

Re: Poll: Do you drive your Shelby and....

I drive my 69 GT500 regularly...probably every other weekend or so...maybe a couple hundred miles a month. I have some other cars, so it has to wait its turn, but I drive all my cars regularly. I take my little guy to Little League games, to get a hamburger, etc...and I let my High School senior drive them for short runs with his girlfriend and buddies, etc. No problems (so far!). I use my cars as if I was driving them in the years when they were made (except NOT in the rain). They get pampered...but they are driven.

Re: Poll: Do you drive your Shelby and....

Before my tranny quit, I drove my '87 CSX every day for the 5 months I owned it. In that time I put many a mile on it, between school, work, socialization, and helping my mom run errands, I squeezed every inch of time I could into that car.

Re: Poll: Do you drive your Shelby and....

Hi All,
This is my first post here. I just stumbled on this forum.
I just started driving my 87 Shelby GLHS Sunday. I bought the car 2 months ago. This is one of the first cars I've had in a while that I really have to watch the miles I put on it. It has 51,000 actual miles. A guy can put 500 miles on a car in a half a day and that calculates to almost 1% of the total mileage. I really need to get something else running.
Otherwise, for now, I'm driving it to and from work. What a fun car.

Good to see you on the site Bob!

I am glad that GLH-S is working out for you. They are a lot of fun to drive. It will be hard to keep the mileage down on it.
