The thing that really pissed me off was that They don't even mention Shelby's involvment with Chrysler in the 80's. This is part of the reason why Shelby Dodge cars don't receive any respect. That and the fact that SAAC gives us the cold shoulder

Don't take it too hard.... the glory days were the sixties, and that's what the focus usually is on, in these type shows.

"...SAAC gives us the cold shoulder" ...well, it is the Shelby American Automobile Club... and, in line with the 'glory days' theme...that company shut it's doors around '71. ..and SAAC does focus on Ford-powered only stuff.

Re: Carroll Shelby - American Muscle Car on Speed Channel

Back then (60's) there was no compromise for performance. We know what happen in the 80's. The cars of the 60's were pure performance as well as dominating every race they were entered into. This is why they focus on this era. Now they are trying to bring that back with the Ford GT and Shelby GT500. All out, non-compromising performance. That's the name of the game!

Carroll admitted that he didn't care about street cars. He only made them because he had to.

I can honestly say that I have never been looked down upon by any SAAC member. We are all here on this board together.

Cool Re: Carroll Shelby - American Muscle Car on Speed Channel

Any Interview I have seen Carroll give on the subject, Has been Positive. I have Videos with him discussing How Iacocca asked for his Help in Kick Starting Chrysler and he oblidged. SAAC did get a club organized for the Dodge Boys. what has become of it I do not know. In my opinion, SAAC aside, This web site has been created to Celebrate The Life, Career and Cars of Carroll Shelby. Period. We are not here to Hate on Him or any of the cars he was involved in. Bashers can go to other Forums. They are not welcome here. I had a Turbo Daytona Shelby with a 5 speed that was awesome. Keep it Real and it is up to you to promote your DODGE Shelby Cars. Carroll Has already done his Part!

Re: Carroll Shelby - American Muscle Car on Speed Channel

There is a very active community amoungst the Shelby Dodge guys. The Shelby Dodge Auto Club holds an annual convention every year and the turn out keeps getting better and better. They also have regional chapters that have pretty good numbers of people in them.

I appreciate all that Mr. Shelby has done for the automotive community, as I know you all feel the same way.

The 80's was a bad time for any type of performance car, however, Shelby's Chrysler based products are now started to be recognized a little more. The prices of the 86 Omni Shelby GLHS' (500 made) are starting to really take off.

I am excited that we have this forum and it's great to see everyone's involvement.

Re: Carroll Shelby - American Muscle Car on Speed Channel

The only negative comment I've ever heard from Mr Shelby about the Dodge cars, was that the shifter on the L bodys was a POS.

That is not a negative comment - Just a statement of fact.

Re: Carroll Shelby - American Muscle Car on Speed Channel

That's true, I had an 84 Rampage with a 4 speed for 7 years and the shifter just fell over twice, some cheap-ass bushing I was told. But when it's freezing out and your stuck in 3rd gear, it was quite a joy trying to get to a phone to call a tow truck (in the days before cell phones).
