Re: series 1
Olds Aurora powered with a supercharged option.
SAI made it in Vegas as a full car. Had a lot of problems - though I understand Shelby Autos has a whole bunch of of left over cars after the Venture fiasaco and will now be selling them as rollers - like the CSX 4000 cars. http://www.autoweek.com/article.cms?articleId=769 http://www.autoweek.com/article.cms?articleId=7257 Here is a fun article on both the Series One and Cobras from MT: http://motortrend.com/features/112_0210_shel/index.html Last edited by KeithBrown; October 7th, 2004 at 12:08 PM. |

Re: series 1
Very nice, and very fast. I have only driven one twice but they are definitely a kick! Yes, they had some trouble getting them produced but they are a lot of fun to drive and I'm a fan of the looks too.

Re: Shelby Series 1 - Who's got one?
There was one at Monterey in August. Tom Tjaarda the designer (Pantera) said that he is redesigning it slightly and putting it back on the market in supercharged form for just above $220K. He and his backers will make another 250 of them. The name is changed,I forgot to what. He says it is still a pretty high tech car and since he lives in Italy he ought to know. I wish they had changed to Ford power but don't know the weight of the Olds 4-cam vs.the Ford 4-cam
Like many Shelby cars, those who counted it out the first time didn't reaize, it ain't over 'til it's over... |

Re: Shelby Series 1 - Who's got one?
It is going to be called the Shelby Series 2 - The reason for using the Olds motor is because Carroll had bought 500 of them (in 1999) and sold what was left (approx 225) to this new group that is building the cars in Las Vegas, last year.
They are trying to get the car road certified for the US but, if not, they will sell the cars to racetrack folks (here) and over-seas people. Kindof like Lotus did a few years back with the Elise (I think that is what it was called) - For US sale, just not street legal............... I am told the updates that were done to the Series 2 are very well done - Like headlights that actually shine, interior improvments, etc. Should have some spy pixs next week to share with the list |
