New Guy 1st Post
Hi all... I'm fulfilling my obligation by making an introductory post. I've been lurking here for a few months - more of a reader than a poster - trying to keep up on things Shelby. I've been a member of SAAC for 20 years or so and a fan of the Cobras and Mustangs since I was a kid. Now that it is again possible to walk into the Ford store and buy a Shelby Mustang off the floor, I've been toying with that idea. Met Carroll in Portland in 1992, I've been a member of Cobra Team 2000, supported the CSCF through that association.
The whole fight between CSL and SAAC is too bad - I'm old enough to understand, however, that there are always two sides to these things. We'll just watch to see how it goes for now. |

Re: New Guy 1st Post
Right now the 47 Mercury is my priority. It's a familiar tale, bought an old car that had been sitting for about 4 years - the owner died. In the process of getting it running, I discovered that the block was cracked. I'd always wanted a flathead powered car - so I procured an engine that was much nicer than the car. The car came all apart and was everthing has been "revised" to be as nice as the engine. This whole process has taken the last 11 years! The nice thing about a slow build is that it can be paid in installments! Now all that is left is the upholstery. I'm still looking for the "right" shop for that. For now, I drive on my wooden seat - grinning from ear to ear.
Next, my son and I plan to build a 1977 CJ-7. He loves the thing but in reality it is totally useless for 95% of the driving a person does. I discovered Shelby's in 1976 via a Peterson yearbook that had a "head to head" driving article featuring a 1976 Mustang II Cobra II and Carroll's own 1966 GT-350. I've still got the book - but it's really tattered. The 65 and 66 GT-350's are my personal favorites and always have been. I'll likely never own one as I can't see spending the entrance fee - but I do love them and their history. The big fuss with SAAC and Shelby is unfortunate - I won't pick a side and don't really consider it my fight. I've got my own problems to work on anyway. I'm sure that the only folks that will do well on the deal are the attorneys. Thanks for the welcome aboard Mike! This seems like a good group. |
