Re: new to site

Hello,

I assume that you know your car is the 3rd production GT 500 built. That is pretty neat to have owned the car since 1969. I hope that you still drive it and enjoy it. Post some pictures when you can.

Best regards,
Eric

Re: new to site

when i rgeistered it with SAAC back in 1984. and then tried to sit down and go thru that book.
seems like i came up with #12.
i am the 2nd owner and spent a lot of time with the first owner.
sadly he discarded a few items on the car that i wish he had not in that he had tried to make the car something else.
i am missing the original bezel for the hung oil/amp gages and the lenses for the scoop lights.
i know he ordered a 66 gt white 350.
waited a long time. i think this car was delivered in nov. dec 66 as to what he said.
this is what showed up. not what he wanted.
he kept it a few years then traded it in on a chevy.
i walked up on it the very next morning a Sr in Military school out here.
paid 2200.00 for it.
lot of $ in 1969

Re: new to site

Hello,

If I am not mistaken, your car is the 5th GT 500 built; but it is the 3rd production GT 500 built. My wife and I own the first production GT 500, it is serial number 0100. The next two GT 500s are serial number 0131 which was the prototype coupe and serial number 0139 which was the prototype convertible. The next production GT 500 is serial number 0164 and then comes your production GT 500 at serial number 0167. Take a look at the registry and let me know if you agree.

Take care of that car and enjoy it.

Best regards,
Eric

Re: new to site

i need a new registry
i "loaned" mine out some years ago to a guy who was trying to flip these cars for income.
he is still in town but has seemed to gone underground.
need to just cough up the cash and buy a new one.
never kept up my SAAC memebrship since not much goes on in NM area with them and cant get away for any time to get to any meets or shows.
if i cant do shows on weekends and then back to town i am kind of out of the loop.
but
see retirement soon and have the gear to get around to these
meets and shows. hope i can do it in the future

I believe only #544 had factory stripes over the top of the car. However many have added them over the years.

Re: new to site - 1967 GT500

Dodmort:

Nice looking car...........does it have it's original paint. It looks like it from the picture?

Eric:

I have had the issue of Sports Car Graphic with your car in it for many years. I am curious, what happened to the A/C set up on the car??

Re: new to site - 1967 GT500

Here's some info for you. The scoop light lenses are still available at some truck stops, and also at a Napa store -in the Balkamp catalog.
Also, since you have #0167, and it had the scoop light this means that I've been wrong about the car numbers around when they stopped installing them. Must be #0161-0165 that does not have them, and #0166-0170 does have them. After that, the installation got spotty.
Look us up under the "1967 Production changes" thread for a list we're putting together about all the changes during the 1967 production year.

Re: new to site - 1967 GT500

Kenny,

All of the under hood A/C stuff was missing when I bought the car in 1979. All of the interior A/C pieces are still on the car. The guy that owned the car back in 1972 told me years ago that the underhood A/C stuff was missing when he owned the car.

My car remained assigned to the Shelby Engineering Department until at least 1/24/1969; at which time it is listed as having a 1X4V 428 engine. Since the car had a 2X4V 390 GT engine in it as originally built and when it was tested by the magazines; it obviously had a least one and possibly more engine swaps done while assigned to the Engineering Department. So, after the magazine tests were done, my theory is that due to engine swaps and other things (?) being done to the car; the Engineering Department removed the A/C parts and elected to leave them off for ease of working on the car. I believe my theory is quite logical and probably what occured.

Let me know your thoughts.

Eric

Re: new to site - 1967 GT500

Mr Mathews, the 67 registrar, told me they did leave off the A/C stuff on lil' Red (#0131) due to the engine experimentation that they were doing. So, probably the same with #0100.

Re: new to site - 1967 GT500

Eric:

Your theory has some merit, however do you know the previous ownership between 1969 up until '72? Perhaps one of them removed the A/C pieces and could possibly still have them? Hey you never know?

Kenny
