Re: new to site - 1967 GT500

Kenny,

The 1969 to 1972 time frame is a "black hole". I have no information regarding when and how (donated, given away, sold?) the car finally left the Shelby Engineering Department or how it was equipped at the time. But I am sticking with my theory about the A/C parts.

For that matter, I do not know what the Engineering Department was doing with the car after the magazine tests were finished in late 1966 - early 1967 until sometime in 1969. My other theory is that during this time frame the car had all '68 fiberglass pieces installed on it. The guy who owned the car in 1972 told me years ago that the car was bodied as a '68 when he owned it. The guy that I bought the car from in 1979 said that it was bodied as a '68 when he bought it in 1977. He gave me a blurry picture of what the car looked like when he bought it. Reference the attached picture. Once again, my theory and I am sticking to it.

Let me know your thoughts.

Eric

Jerome,

Sorry that we sort of hijacked your thread.

I looked at the pictures of your car. The car looks pretty nice from what I can see in the pictures. You should be proud to own such an early GT 500.

Best regards,
Eric

Eric:

I like the picture, had no idea that your car was used as a '68 mock up?
I would stick with your current theory until some one can come along and disprove it,

Kenny

Re: new to site - 1967 GT500

Kenny,

I am convinced, strongly believe, that the '68 fiberglass was installed while the car was assigned to the Shelby Engineering Department. I am not sure if my car was used as a mock-up for the '68s, but I do think it is entirely possible that it was. I find it highly unlikely that a previous owner would have installed the '68 fiberglass during the relatively short 1969-1972 time frame. As you said, I am sticking with this theory until someone can disprove it.

Jerome,

Yes, that is my car on the cover of the March 1967 issue of Sports Car Graphic and featured in the road test article inside. My car was also road tested in the February 1967 issues of Car and Driver and Road and Track. The car was mentioned and an interior picture was shown in the April 1967 issue of Motor Trend. I have several copies of each of these magazines.

Best regards,
Eric

Re: new to site - 1967 GT500

Jerome,

Thanks for the offer regarding the magazine. I really do not need another copy right now. Why don't you just hang on to the copy that you have.

But, if you really do not want the magazine anymore; I would be glad to take it off your hands......

Best regards,
Eric
